It is then that Cole, calls of a group of friends in which he shares a psychic bond with, all different in lifestyle, they unite to battle the evil force, on the night of a full moon.
Well to be honest I received about 5 movies this week and VOODOO MOON, just happened to be the one I was less looking forward to. The plot just didn't grab me and to add to my unexcitment, the DVD's cover wasn't too appealing to me. I expected a SCI-FI Channel type movie, and as it turns out, that's exactly what it is, as I have heard that it has aired on the channel. The story is somewhat decent but sometimes it can be a little exaggerated and over the top wacky - mostly stemming from mediocre CGI work, that at times you just can't look past with a straight face.
I do have Kevin VanHook's previous film THE FALLEN ONES, but I must admit to not ever seeing it, at least not yet anyway. So going into VOODOO MOON I was not familiar visually to his work, honestly this was your basic sci-fi cable TV affair, with a sometimes shaky camera and a bunch of actors(most of them very talented) reacting to things that aren't there physically but then added in later digitally.
Since I mentioned the acting, I saw the over all acting as a mixed bag. I mean what do you expect when you have the great John Amos, Jeffery Combs, and a beautiful actress like Charisma Carpenter all in one place? Well, you'd expect a rather entertaining flick I suppose, and with VOODOO MOON, you get a story with potential, but not including much more else. The effects are bad, and the pace and flow of the story seem to drift away slowly, most of the film's characters suffer from lack of development which in the end, in my opinion all leads to a film that becomes rather difficult to follow. Most casual movie watchers are likely to not sit still and continuously concentrate on a film like this, so in that event, they are likely to lose track of what is happening on screen..
Overall, VOODOO MOON had the potential to maybe, not be the best film of it's kind, bur at least be an entertaining one, but due to having a full cast of thin characters whom we know very little about, for me it just doesn't work.....how did Cole come to get his "powers" and just who are this friends that have joined him in battle, things like these remain a mystery... |

GORE
METER
2/10 To me as far as gore goes, VOODOO MOON is rather tame, as far as I can remember most of the kills are made off screen, and a few corpses are covered in blood...

MUSICAL
SCORE
3/10 The opening theme of the film is rather catchy, the rest of the film sports a score not as impressive.

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
Overall, the film had a very good idea, as well as a great cast, but to me the story is far too under developed to really take off. I really don't see many Horror fans actually buying this film, maybe just a rental and nothing more. The majority of people that will likely be attracted to VOODOO MOON are fans of the BUFFY and ANGEL TV series.
