PLOT
When 12-year-old Pamela goes on vacation with her family to a bed and breakfast, the girl who lives next door tells her the "true story" of the Tooth Fairy: Many years earlier, the evil Tooth Fairy slaughtered a countless number of children to take their teeth, and now she has returned to kill Pamela and anyone else who gets in her way.

THE REVIEW
Peter, after separating from Darcy, has just purchased an old house, in which he plans to convert into a bed and breakfast. Darcy and young daughter Pamela have come to the house to visit for the weekend, soon after arriving, Pamela meets a mysterious little girl named Emma. Emma warns the girl of an old witch whom lived in Peter's new house. She says that the witch, when she was a little girl, was teased and tormented because she was stricken with facial deformities, she grew up to be meaner than ever before and plotted revenge on all of the children in the neighborhood. The old "with" as they called her, would lure the children into the house and promise them a trade- their tooth for various items, such as a brand new bike. Instead of trading, the lady would take the teeth and then proceed to kill the child. Before we know it, we learn that Pamela is on the verge of losing her last remaining baby tooth and it's not long that the old witch comes back to haunt - Pamela, as well as Peter and Darcy are told by Emma and an old townswoman Ms. McDonald that they must burn the witch and return all of the witch's collection of teeth back to the souls of the lost children.

THE TOOTH FAIRY is basically almost like 2003's DARKNESS FALLS, except in this film's case the plot is directly inspired by The Tooth Fairy, where as DARKNESS FALLS only had an evil spirit taking shape of the fairy. While watching this I got the feeling that THE TOOTH FAIRY is a film geared more towards younger kids, as older audiences may find the plot a characters a little hokey, but despite a light-hearted Horror story, the gruesome gore as well as sexual situations would contradict this notion.

I myself actually fount the plot to be a little immature, I mean, an old lady who once killed young children for their teeth, and the only way for the children's spirits to be set free are for the witch to be killed and their teeth be returned to them - are teeth really THAT important? It never really explains just what the old lady does with the teeth(other than keep them in a music box), but for some reason I thought some of the story was interesting, the gore is really well done and the countryside setting was perfect. Other than the few things that make this film passable, there is one main thing that I didn't like. Well, since Peter owns the bed and breakfast that was formally owned by the mean witch, a few random visitors are introduced, but the characters are just there, for a hacking and aren't really examined - they are basically the equivalent of filler songs on an album, there to take up time.

With that said, the acting by the main actors, is fairly decent. Lochlyn Munro, and Chandra West do well as the parent figures here, and are quite likeable i'd say. But the main character in my opinion is that of young Pamela, whom is portrayed by Nicole Muņoz... as she is the bearer of the most desired tooth.

Overall, this film looks like it could be shot to air on cable television, it has a story that is likely to scare more children than adults, but still offers it's brutal gore that is sure to please it's much older viewers.

GORE METER
5.5/10 With a story that is so subtle in nature, I was surprised at the amount of gore this one had, We have a brutal looking wood chipper death and also a severed penis, that looked like they hurt.

MUSICAL SCORE
2/10 I wasn't really digging the score, it sounded rather generic like something from a CARRIE or SCREAM.

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
This is a decent film that's enjoyable, the story that they have conjured up about the tooth fairy is quite good, but in the end fails to be all that believable. As i've said, younger audiences would love this, spare the few adult aimed angles, of course. I would recommend at least renting this one, it's a good way to kill some time...

This DVD will be released on Aug. 8th, 2006
