PLOT
A couple of friends party wildly at a vacation house. While they're drinking and having the time of their lives, an escaped mental patient stalks the party, killing anyone who parts from the gang. As the night falls, the remaining partyers find themselves trapped inside the house with a mad serial killer outside, just waiting to kill the rest of them off.

THE REVIEW
Well I had waited a few moths to see SLEEPOVER NIGHTMARE, there was a delay in getting my screener here, but when I finally got it, I couldn't wait to finally have the chance to view it. After all of that waiting, I got a good film but to me SLEEPOVER NIGHTMARE is one over hyped film. Don't get me wrong, I said it was great but some of these reviewers gave this such high praise that I was already prepared to give this film a 7 but I cannot.

The films plot is nothing new or special, but it does serve it's purpose to give the killer an environment to kill in. The plot takes place as a group of teens gather together at one of them's house to have a party while there parents are gone. Everything seems to be going great except one thing.....a mental patient has escaped and is on the loose, killing the teens off one by one in a number of gruesome ways. The story about the killer is interesting though. A few years back he was at a party much like this one, when he finds he's girlfriend having sex with another man. In what is one of the film's highlight kills, he proceeds to bash the man's head in with the car door and then later slamming his head against the car before ultimately running him over! From now on he is easily offended by young teens having sex, and it is kind of all to similar of Jason Voorhees,

The overall look of the film was a bit grainy and a little hard to see at times... especially in the dark scenes. In other people's writings they have mentioned that this film has the 80's campy feel to it and indeed it does, it's just that sometimes the lighting is a bit bad. Clearly the best thing going for SLEEPOVER NIGHTMARE is the gore, the gore is pretty good and some of the kills are ultra creative,

Ultimately my biggest complaint about the film, is no complaint about the filmmakers, rather the distributor.. I understand you send us screener copies and I know that you must label the film as "Not for sale or rental" and what not. but putting them every 10 minutes for 3 minutes at a time is a bit of a distraction and I for one couldn't really soak in the film. To me this is hurting the filmmakers... and honestly it may have influenced my ranking of the film which is unfortunate. "less is more"

The acting in SLEEPOVER NIGHTMARE i'd say is just your average B-Movie fare. Some of the guys overacted and wasn't very convincing. The supporting actress Kristine Cofsky acted in an inexperienced manner and was often annoying at times. However the guy that played the killer(who's name I can't remember) had a somewhat average performance here. The best performance in SLEEPOVER NIGHTMARE, goes to Hayley Sales, whom I can't believe hasn't had anymore features other than this, as she is beautiful and seems to maybe have some talent hidden somewhere....I hope we will see her in another film soon. Overall, the filmmakers were obviously going for the 80's slasher look and feel, they got it here....However the story seems to "paper thin" at times, and it only seems to heat up if you will around mid-movie. This film was ok, and I do like it in some areas, but I am really disappointed that it wasn't what everyone else seems to be raving about.

GORE METER
5 1/2/10 The gore seems to be the focal point of SLEEPOVER NIGHTMARE and it does sport some creative gore. We have decapitations, multiple impalements, a bashed in skull and my favorite is an aluminum can crushed into one's skull.

MUSICAL SCORE
4/10 I don't seem to have a good memory when it comes to the soundtrack, but I do remember some rave type music at the party as well as an instrumental score throughout.

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
As I said earlier, I expected this film to be a lot better than it actually turns out....perhaps it will be better after multiple viewings.... However this is a film you'd want to check out though just for the kills alone.
