PLOT
When Alex and his virginal girlfriend Lori move into a New York City apartment, they fall victim to blood-thirsty supernatural forces that have horrifying plans for them. The apartment is haunted by the restless spirits of an occultist named Zachary and his fanatical followers who had committed mass suicide years before. Seduced by a mysterious woman, Alex is gradually possessed by the diabolical Zachary. Only Lori can battle the putrid powers of darkness and save Alex's soul when he transforms into a murdering, melting monster…a hideous slime-splattered demon that cannot be stopped.

THE REVIEW
SLIME CITY is a sort of complicated film to take in as the story is really a hard one to follow along with. When I saw the trailer for this a few months ago, I had never saw the old VHS video release of the film, so it was going to be new to me. Well, from that trailer I was under the impression that SLIME CITY would be a lot like a Troma film, I was excited because, believe it or not I am a Troma fan. The film has a lot of elements that a Troma film does have; The cheese, the gore and the unbelievable, but what it lacks is that Troma films have a plot that make a little bit of sense.
Alex moves into an apartment building that appears to look normal on the outside. What he finds inside are few kooky neighbors, which include a freakish guy named Roman, and a sexy sexpot named Nicole(played by Mary Huner, who also plays the role of Alex's Girlfriend Lori) Well, one day Alex is asked by Roman, if he would like to share a dinner with him and Alex agrees. During dinner Roman serves up this strange slimy goo, in which he says is yogurt. After eating the goo Alex experiences something weird and starts to turn into some kind of slime monster that loves to kill. Alex later finds out that the old creepy land lady has been serving up the slimy substance, and an elixir, made by her sadist father for years.
What I don't get is how in the world is someone ever going to convince anyone to even eat a slimy substance? It's just kind of ridiculous, the thought of a cult that worships slime made by some crazy nut job, The acting in the film is beyond terrible as you'd expect for a film like this; often can be excuse, but in this case it doesn't help the film's crazy story. This film possesses a lot of gory goo and perhaps that is the best thing about it. The gore in SLIME CITY is so fake that you just have to love it.
In the end what I like most about this DVD is EI Independent's whole presentation, which happens to be fabulous. As for the film, it's non interesting, non believable plot is what kills it for me, but the cheese factor and gore are good.

GORE
METER
7/10 Not so much bloody, but we get yellowish greenish goo everywhere, it's kind of fun to watch, along with decapitations and severed limbs.

MUSICAL
SCORE
4.5/10 Ultra cheesy score but I kind of do like it a little bit.

SPECIAL
FEATURES RATING
7/10 The special features include a commentary, and a making of documentary that is actually quite better than the film itself. Also includes another Lambertson film called NAKED FEAR that I have yet to watch. |

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
This film is high on the cheese but low in plot and in the end it is one big slow mess of a film. I really hoped to enjoy this film but it is not what I expected to see. But a big A+ in presentation for EI.
