| PLOT A young woman discovers a terrible secret while caring for an elderly man in this supernatural thriller. Caroline is a care provider for the aged who is hired away from the hospice where she works by Violet Devereaux. Violet needs someone to help take care of her husband, Ben, who is in poor health and doesn't have long to live. Violet and Ben live in a decaying rattletrap mansion not far from New Orleans, and as she settles into her work, Caroline spends her spare time exploring the house. It isn't long before Caroline discovers evidence that suggests Ben and Violet are members of a sinister voodoo cult, and that ghosts walk in the Devereaux mansion. |

| THE REVIEW Let me just say that the skeleton key, was one of the best mainstream movies to come out this year. The movie is about a woman named Caroline who wants to give another type of nursing a try, so she applies to be the hospice nurse of a man ailing from a recent stroke. upon her arrival things start occurring that are just out of the ordinary. This movie is set in the beautiful scenery in Louisiana, just by looking at the visuals you can tell that it might as well be quite humid there. But we get to our main part in the film, it actually becomes more of a character in THE SKELETON KEY. It is a big house that looks like it was built many years ago so you can imagine that it would empower everything creepy, and leave you with an absolute dreadful environment THE SKELETON KEY is one of those Voodoo ritual films that you often see, however this time they referred to it as "Hoodoo" I believe, but I could've very well heard wrong. This type of black magic has to do with more of a religion and what one whom follows it believes. I will say this, I know nothing about voodoo nor black magic, and THE SKELETON KEY makes me feel grateful of that as it made it seem very real.. Just like I said that this is one of the best mainstream films i've seen this year, This film most definitely has the best acting i've seen all year long! Especially from the lead females, Kate Hudson and Gena Rowlands. Rowlands....i've always liked her, she is truly an uncompromisable actor, and THE SKELETON KEY is no exception. Gena Rowlands' performance here is something that any fan of the general Psychopath would enjoy. Kate Hudson here makes the jump from the likely drama to the horror realm in this one and to me, well I hope she continues to make more horror films as she is amazing here, as Caroline. I have been a Kate Hudson fan since one of her earlier films called "Ricochet River" so I can tell you this.... Kate has always had a charm over me...can you really blame a guy though? THE SKELETON KEY is a surprise because most mainstream horror movies these days fail to keep me interested but this one did, i'd have to admit. |
