THE REVIEW
Well, this will probably set me apart from the norm when I say I did not enjoy this film. At the time I heard of the DVD release from Heretic, I had never heard of SHOCKHEADED before. On further investigation I found that it was a well liked film by many - but after seeing it.... I ask why?
With a name like SHOCKHEADED, you'd expect this to be weird and to me that is exactly what it is, a trippy murder mystery, that often tries too hard to be different and unique.
The film follows Noble, a man who has been living in a run down motel room. He has been having weird dreams as of late, in the dreams he finds himself at the location of a secluded stone castle in a forrest and near the castle he sees a mysterious white mask that bears no features but a pair of piercing eyes. It all comes full circle for Noble when two Officers show up at his room looking for a missing porn actress who previously stayed there. Noble's curiosity grows and he digs deeper into her disappearance and discovers that the dreams he is having and also the mysterious notes he has been getting under the door my all be connected when he spots a man wearing the very mask he had seen in the dreams in one of the missing female's videos. ....The story is there, but in my opinion the whole thing just doesn't hold up to it's potential.
The film showcases characters that lack depth and charisma, and just bore you to death, sorry to say but it's my honest opinion. With SHOCKHEADED it was difficult for me to ever get into it, sometimes good movies fail to gain your initial interest, but redeem themselves a little later on - but in this case, as far as I go it never latched on.
The acting to me was below average at best except for Jason Wauer (Noble) and Debbie Rochon as the ill-fated porn star...simply credited as "The Actress". Speaking honestly, probably the only best thing going for SHOCKHEADED, is in fact Ms. Rochon.... I have always liked Debbie, but her role is just not big enough to warrant this a keeper. |

GORE
METER
3/10 Very little gore in this....there is a beheading, but it is not seen on camera.

MUSICAL
SCORE
4/10 A lot of bass-ridden atmospheric tracks, this seem rather bland and generic at times but the piano tunes featured later in the film are actually soothing and nice.

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
When I review a film, I make it my duty to be truthfully honest, and I have to be honest and say that I don't see why this gets so much praise. Sure the plot is somewhat promising, but I found myself bored to no end with the pace of the film. I will give the film it's props for the more than cool mask and for the fact that the final fight scene was sort of entertaining, but it was just a little too late for me...
