PLOT
Local legend has it that a woman roams the woods in search of a pretty face to replace the vacant hole where her own was brutally torn off. Tonight, a family has set-up camp in these same woods, and they are about to discover the story of the faceless killer is no mere campfire tale – it is a disturbing, nightmarish reality. |

THE REVIEW
SCARRED is another one of those cheesy releases to come from MTI Home Video. I was really looking forward to this film when I first heard about it last month. It does have a very interesting story, but some of the film isn't just what you'd expect.
SCARRED'S story, surrounds a legend of a woman whom cheated on her abusive husband with a drifter, who had a facial deformity. When the husband catches the 2 together he savagely and brutally murder's the drifter. It just so happens that the woman has become pregnant by the mysterious man and that the child is born with it's father's identical facial blemishes. Disgusted with seeing the child's abnormalities and being reminded of his wife's betrayal, the man attacks the child and cuts away his face. Afterwards, the husband sets their cabin ablaze killing all three inside.....or so we think. It turns out that the child survived the fire and she is now a young female...and is living in the woods. She is so disgusted with her appearance that she will stop at nothing to get a new "face". When a family and a friend take up grounds to camp nearby.... the soon will find out that the creature is on the hunt.
The story to this film is awesome, i'll admit and I was really excited when I received this in the mail. However, I got a film that is far less serious than I expected it to be. This film has a lot of things in it from films we have already seen before, The scene where the guy warns them not to go into the woods is a lot like Friday The 13th. The campfire scene in which the camp ranger is telling the story of the legend is reminiscent of CABIN FEVER or that horrible movie called S.I.C.K.. Also the killer moves and acts just like one of the killers in DETOUR which is another film put out by this very company. Highly predictable it also ends the same way DETOUR does as well.
The acting here is a mixed bag....some of it is absolutely terrible, take Jonny Mack for example, whom plays Ben....his moaning when he is injured is really annoying and one of the worst performances i've seen lately.... The two girls whom are the main focus of the film, Julian Berlin and Charity Shea offer up average efforts. I really liked Charity Shea I thought she ws very attractive here.
The directing is nothing amazing but in the end this is just an average cheese fest that can be enjoyed somewhat....some of it is funny, obviously be it unintentional.

GORE
METER
4/10 The main gore point in this film is mostly the face "scalping", I didn't find it to be all that gory though.

MUSICAL
SCORE
2/10 Not much of a soundtrack, most of all I remember it being 2 rock tracks and bland instrumentals.

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
This film is cheesy and looks a little too inspired by other films, like face scalping....well that's already been done in THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2....and most of that stick out I have seen in other MTI releases. But if you are looking for something to pass the time check it out on December 6, 2005, but never say i didn't warn you!
