THE REVIEW
What happens when your video games become reality? Well that is the question answered in SATAN'S LITTLE HELPER.
Dougie is obsessed with his new video game "Satan's Little Helper" In the game, you are Satan's 'helper' that assists him in various murders and crime to obtain points. Dougie loves his game so much, that he decides to dress up as Satan's helper for Halloween, and then go on a quest to find Satan. Of course know one believes him, but as he is walking, Dougie sees a strange man whom appears to be Satan, killing people, for what Dougie thinks are "points". The little boy becomes friends with this character and asks to be his helper. Dougie's video game fantasy is now in real life, as he thinks he is helping Satan ear his points by killing people for, pretend or so he believes..... When Dougie returns home with the strange man....his sister and mom believe that it is the sister's boyfriend whom is dawning a freakish costume but soon "Satan" targets them!
This film, i'll admit first appeared as it were a "made for TV film" and admittingly I was not into it. But as this movie goes along it does sort of grow on you a bit. I wouldn't necessarily call this a serious horror film by no means, but what I find it to be is entertaining. It really goes to show you, just how much young children can obsess in what they love and believe in, just how much a child can be manipulated. Dougie believed in his game so much and also in the Satan character that he actually thinks all of the killings are pretend, and that it is "cool" to do so. It made it interesting to watch, just to see the little boy's reaction to what was occurring before his eyes. Also some of the interaction between Dougie and "Satan" provided some very comedic moments in the film. I recall one scene in which the young boy and his new friend partake in an adventure to the supermarket to shop for murder tools.... all resulting in the two not paying for their merchandise and walking off. The horror is present yes, as well as the gore but it is actually the comedy that wins this one for me.
I thought the acting by everyone in the principal cast was overall pretty good. Alexander Brickel, does a great job with his performance as young Douglas Whooly, an really made the 'Satan" character come off as believable. Amanda Plummer play's Dougie and his sister Jenna's mother Merrill whom is a little odd and kooky to say the very least, but that is also believable. Probably the most dominating performance to come from this film excluding Alexander Brickel. is that of Katheryn Winnick whom is Jenna. Katheryn Winnick, does an awesome job and on further research she appears to be making a name for herself as of late. This is my first time seeing her but I doubt it's the last.
This film would be great for a late night party, filled with laughter as it is one highly entertaining film.

GORE
METER
4.5/10 Not really all that bloody to me, but there are hangings, slashings and also a man thrown through a glass window, which are some of the things I remember most

MUSICAL
SCORE
3/10 Not a big fan of the score, a lot of it sounded like things I have heard before and not original music. |

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
Again, this film surprised me..... I really enjoyed it. Just don't go into SATAN'S LITTLE HELPER thinking you are going to get a gore bath or anything more...as the film is based, not solely on comedy but for the most part. This is worth checking out..... |
