THE REVIEW
While never really being a fan of Stephen King adaptations, I felt compelled to check this one out. I can tell you that I'm sure glad I took that chance, as I think this is the best adaptation since "It" With me saying that says a lot for this film which happens to favor it, as "It" was an excellent film in my opinion. I'd like to say that Mick Garris, with this film he finally shines as a director, his previous efforts, such as "Sleepwalkers" lacked something and were just not enjoyable to me.
With this film, despite being a horror/thriller you actually gain knowledge and learn something from this film. This film shows and teaches you that life is more valuable than some of us make it. We all learn this through our main character, who is played brilliantly by Jonathan Jackson, as he encounters his own demons from learning about the real reason his father died as well as meaning of life it self.
The reason that I gave this the rating that I did, was the fact that I feel their were too many scenes in which Alan's conscience is speaking to him, sort of like his out of body experience. Although a great concept, I feel as if it was done a little too much in the film.
The re rest of the cast is well rounded, we have the beautiful, Erika Christensen, whom plays Alan's Girlfriend, also David Arquette whom plays the mysterious being that picks up hitch-hiking Alan. David Arquette does an amazing job here in one of his more serious roles, and he makes the character come across as believable.
I really enjoyed watching this film, I hope this is a sign of more good things to come from Garris.
