THE REVIEW
RESIDENT DEMON comes to no shock to me at just how bad it is, but I was kind of disappointed, as I thought it could've been a whole lot better than it was.
RESIDENT DEMON, is about a young female who had moved in to a house years prior with her sister Maggie. It is in that house that Tabitha begins practicing evil rituals that involved drinking the blood of the victims that she has sacrificed. On one occasion while performing a said ritual, Tabitha commits suicide. It is now years later and a new couple has moved in to the very house in which the sisters once shared, but the happen to be unaware of the evil that still remains. Maggie, the surviving sister has been housed in an insane hospital ever since the incident which her sister occurred, but when she gets the sense that someone is now living in the house she escapes. All of the sudden, Maggie shows up armed with many warnings for the new couple as well as some house guests. She informs them that her sister is still alive spirit wise and that she can consume and take over any body as she wishes. It seems as just as Maggie says it, that everything begins to happen as the friends begin dying one by one at the hands of each other as Tabitha the deceased sister controls their actions.
I will give my credit where it is due and say that I do like the plot, and it is brilliant in a way, but the way it is executed and played out is not beneficial as a whole. The low budget here is completely evident as it does have its many, many flaws, such as bad lighting, bad audio bad acting...well you get the picture. Probably just about everything you can think of goes wrong, this has to be one of the worst films ever acquired by The Asylum although still not the worst, that title would go to HAUNTED HOUSE. The story/plot od a spirit...an evil one at that moving from body to body making them kill for it can be fascinating, but RESIDENT DEMON can't cut it. Such a story has happened before, take THE HAZING, a film in which did this perfectly, almost the same concept as RESIDENT DEMON but THE HAZING just did things on pitch. The other thing that bothered me about this movie is that it's over all look and appearance looked like that of a late 80's early 90's soap opera, this in clearly not to be discovered just by looking at it's cover art, as it is bright and eye-catching.
The acting is about as terrible as the film itself and is somewhat laughable. These actors try so hard to act convincing that it is just unbelievable. They are put into situations that have the fakest effects one has probably ever seen, yet they want you to feel sorry for their characters, but how can the viewer relate when it doesn't even look even a bit real to them.
Overall, this film has everything you would soon to forget, bad special effects and throw in some bad cgi gunfire along for the ride too. I definitely do not see this as a movie that would want to be seen more than once. It's not like in 5 years you are going to say "Oh, let's revisit RESIDENT DEMON!", it is a completely forgettable flick.

GORE
METER
5/10 The gore is there, but don't get your hopes up, as it is completely unrealistic to say the least. |

MUSICAL
SCORE
1/10 The film starts and then ends with some cheese opera music. Not so sure about any other music included, I can't remember any.

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
I don't know why The Asylum keep acquiring these crappy films, but they do. I certainly would not want my name on something as bad as this, but perhaps they are hoping to strike gold with one of them. I did not like this film at all and my opinion i'd give to you is to stay away from this one, don't be fooled by it's cover! |
