PLOT
Las Vegas means fun in the sun. Well, at least the sun is still there. Except for a few rusting landmarks, it looks pretty much like the rest of the desert - or the whole country, for that matter. The crowds are now flesh-eating zombies: the mass undead, the oozing, terrifying sludge of what remains. Here, the newly upgraded Alice, along with her crew will make a final stand against evil - with one goal: to turn the undead, dead again.

THE REVIEW
In RESIDENT EVIL : EXTINCTION, it has been a few years since a deadly virus formulated by the evil biological company, The Umbrella Corporation plagued Raccoon City - and now it's wiping out what's left of the world's population. Our main character Alice is still trying to figure her life out, and now living on a seemingly dead planet, she believes herself to be one of the sole survivors. But eventually she would see some familiar faces when she meets up with a caravan of surviving troops - which includes Carlos Olivera, Lead by Claire Redfield, the caravan have been fighting their way to their survival against a horde of the undead that failed to parish due to the T-virus. Alice assists them in their battle, shortly before backing away do to the fear that she does nothing but harm to those people around her. While the rest of them had for safety in Alaska, Alice goes on her own to further uncover The Umbrella Corporation's sinister operation -which ultimately reveals her to be the key to it all

First things first, I loved the original RESIDENT EVIL, even though a lot of people didn't. I liked it because it was like a zombie film with brains, and although the idea of zombies all together can be exaggerated, the first film made the whole situation believable, at least in my opinion. Although based on the popular series of video games of the same name RESIDENT EVIL drew only a little bit of inspiration from those games, with the rest consisted of original ideas. When the sequel, RESIDENT APOCALYPSE came along, I feel that it felt a bit more like a live action video game - with character's wearing comic book like attire, and ever cheesier villains.

Now it's been awhile since I had seen the previous 2 installments, so before going into this one, I just hoped that this wouldn't be hard to understand without seeing the others again. At first it my be difficult to "get" but at about the mid-point you start to grasp the RESIDENT EVIL story once again. Unlike the other two films, RESIDENT EVIL : EXTINCTION, for the most part moves away from closed locations, and takes place in a world that is more or less post-apocalyptical and is just one big desert. Not only is this a good setting for a movie, but coupled with a horde of the undead roaming around looking for their next feast - you have some really eye catching action as our band of heroes fight to survive. Along with all of action, essentially feels like a Military-like film, with the addition of the Claire Redfield character, who leads a caravan of soldiers whom have a mission to rid whatever else is left of the world from a plague brought on by the dreaded to virus,

Personally I really liked the Claire Redfield character, I never really played the video games but I am aware of the character, and from all that I know, Ali Larter did a good job as Claire - but unfortunately this character has very little focus put upon her, neither do any of the others for that matter. For the first time is the serious, it's really all about the character of Alice, portrayed by Milla Jovovich, whom has been in all three films. For the previous two films, we new she played an big part in the virus's resolution, but we just never knew exactly how. In RESIDENT EVIL : EXTINCTION, we finally are clued in a little as to what her involvement is all about.

With all of this said, most of the time the film makes Alice it's primary vehicle. The story is an interesting one. But no matter how interesting it is, it starts to go down hill when it begins to focus on this aspect of the story solely. Because going back again to the action, compared to the previous films as I remember, EXTINCTION has a little less of the action.

Overall, the third installment of the RESIDENT EVIL franchise isn't has bad as I thought it would be. My only complaints would probably be that, sometimes I felt as if the pace slows down a little, and for the fact there is just not enough focus on the other characters in the film. Perhaps there will be another time in which those characters will have more focus however, because if RESIDENT EVIL : EXTINCTION's ending is an indication of anything, it seems as if this series will continue to go on for many sequels to come.

GORE METER
3/10 A few gunshots, slashings and one being mauled by a flock of birds, is all I can seem to remember....the gore is not really a stand out

MUSICAL SCORE
4.5/10 The score for RESIDENT EVIL : EXTINCTION is much like the scores for the previous installments, still having the same familiarity mixing some upbeat rock tracks with it's traditional scoring.

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
Since I hadn't seen RESIDENT EVIL or RESIDENT EVIL : APOCALYPSE in a long time prior to this, I went into RESIDENT EVIL : EXTINCTION, thinking of it all a stand alone film. To me it was an ok film overall, but there is still a lot more I thought could've been done as far as story expansion in regards to the other characters - it just seems that the script was too focused on getting to the next sequel.

This DVD will be released on January 1, 2008
