| PLOT There’s a rave going on. It’s gonna be great. Tuesday and her boyfriend J.T., and their friend Katie, and Katie’s brother, are going out partying to the biggest rave in Providence, Rhode Island. Of course, the reckless kids become part of an alien plot to distribute some strange drugs (they’re so strange, that they glow in the dark) among the ravers at the party. The socially smart storyline tells a tale of reckless youth with no control over the substances they ingest in heir endless quest for stimulation, feeling, and euphoria. The risks of doing some drugs may never be discovered until it’s too late, when the party's over. |

| THE REVIEW RAVING MANIACS, is a story that shows you just how fast a dangerous drug can travel amongst the hands of curious teenagers, except in this story the side effects are rather bizarre. This film is about a new drug that has hit the street, it is rather small\ small in size but what makes it so unique is that it glows of a bright green hue. Those who deal it think that it will be a hit among the young rave crowd, if not for it's hallucinogen effect on them then definitely for it's novelty appeal alone. Well fast forward a little, we have the local club downtown called "The Strand", who just happen to be setting up for what promises to be their biggest rave of the year, one they are entitling "Rave To The Grave". A group of friends who become our main characters are going to attend the rave.... well on their way to the club they nearly hit a strange looking man in the middle of the road whom then gets into the vehicle with them. It is at this point that the viewer, does not know the strange individuals motive, but when a bag of pills is found in which he has left behind is found in the car, we assume that he is meaning to spread the drug between these friends. They all end up taking the mysterious glowing drug(all but one of them), all seems fine until this same drug makes it inside and all of our ravers begin to act in an unnatural manner, a manner of filled with sexual energy and blood thirst. In the end it's revealed that the drug is actually an egg type thing that zombifies it's users, the drug begins to multiply inside them making them a human crop and a definite profit for the dealers. I will admit it, as much as I am tired of all of the zombie flicks that have came out in the last 5 years or so, the plot behind RAVING MANIACS is quite inventive. I liked the plot so much that I really hoped to like this movie much more than I actually did. I don't remember a story like this ever being told, and it is a rarity these days to find anything relatively original. With so much that could've been done here, I feel that RAVING MANIAC's scrip was not utilizes to it's fullest extent possible. The acting as in most Brain Damage films is about average, this film had a few characters in it that I feel who were just a little too over the top, even for a Horror comedy such as this. I did although like the character of Keith, the dweeby video game porn playing nerd with a lisp, I thought he was pretty funny at times... What I look for in every movie that I watch is the element of getting to know just who we are dealing with....who are these people, and how are they going to appeal and effect me as I watch this film? I feel that having something or someone to care about is very important in determining just how much you enjoy a film. Well we do get to know each character very briefly, but not too in depth, and soon they dive into the rave where it is all to hectic to sort out the characters individually and by that time you should know who these characters are and what they're all about. Also, to me the pace was very slow and un enthusiastic for the most part, and some of the extra characters that were thrown in, just were unfunny and even more less interesting I thought some of the dialogue was clever but some of the humor attempted was again unfunny and seemed forced from the actors' mouths. Towards the last 20 minutes left in the film, it finally begins to pick up at a much faster and exciting pace, and I was actually digging it, but before you know it the credits were upon me. Had this film kept the pace that it possessed in the final half hour or so this would've been one hell of a movie. But instead of this we have a film that has a LOT of promise.....it's just too little, too late to make the whole feature worth while. |

SCORE 4.5/10 Not my type of music, but there is a lot of techno music displayed, as it is only fitting.... after all it is a film about a rave. We also sometimes have some mellow sounding acoustics, mostly played in the sappy scenes. |

IMPRESSION OF THE FILM I did not like the film as a WHOLE, but I DID like the last portion of the movie, I thought it was killer! (no pun there) The story was really fresh and I dug it, but on this i'll leave it up to you, the choice is up to you.... |
