THE REVIEW
From German director Boris von Sychowski, comes THE POOL, A film that is expected to be cliché' but as it turns out is very entertaining.
Our story is set at the International High School in Prague, where graduation is just around the corner. A group of about 12 students decide the best way to celebrate, is to throw a party at Prague biggest swimming pool. When the pool's doors are locked, the students take it upon themselves to break in. What they do not know is that a masked killer will be waiting for them, with nothing but menacing revenge on his mind....
Let me tell you guys something, I didn't even plan on reviewing this film today, but I enjoyed it so much that I thought someone might find my opinion useful! And what my opinion has to be on THE POOL is nothing more than a positive one. This film is a lot like the American film that we all know SCREAM, but with a pace that is a lot faster and a high body count. When this film first started, about the first 20 minutes bored me to death, and I was saying to myself "oh no not another bad slasher", but it suddenly all changes, and gets interesting. It starts getting interesting when all of the relationships between the characters begin to blossom : you have some getting mad at others and others feeling sorry for those said people in which they begin to develop feelings for them. What this does is, it keeps the notion of who just might be the masked killer fresh. Just when you think you may know whom the killer may be, something happens which leads the audience to have second thought. Quite possibly the most imaginative part of THE POOL are the many kills. Our masked killer wields a machete and the way he utilizes that thing is amazing as the execution of the kills are very creative and entertaining.
The acting here is very mixed. Just as the name of the high school in the film might suggest, the cast of different nationalities. It was very hard for me to distinguish them but, I did recognize Kristen Miller, whom happens to be American, and it may be bias, but Miller's performance is the one I found myself enjoying most. Elena Uhlig, and Thorsten Grasshoff were also standouts in this flick.
This film was one that I really really enjoyed. The direction is great and has it's atmospheric moments that almost leave you feeling claustrophobic, which, believe it or not... is a good thing. |

MUSICAL
SCORE
5.5/10 I feel that THE POOL's score really benefited the film very positively. It added to the atmosphere (which was already great to begin with) in a very positive way.

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
Wow, from the start of it, I really did not believe that I would find this all that interesting. I was very wrong on this. It has all the right stuff to keep you thoroughly entertained. I will never get tired of a good slasher flick, and this is one of them. I highly recommend this film....even if you don't like movies such as SCREAM, you may want to gibe THE POOL a shot!
