THE REVIEW
NIKOS THE IMPALER comes to use from German Director Andreas Schnaas, who has directed such films as ZOMBIE DOOM and DEMONIUM. This film is about a Barbarian killer that was slain centuries ago, as part of revenge for his crimes. Now in present day New York, Nikos is resurrected and is only killing spree taking it out on the Big Apple's occupants. The movie starts out in Romania, showing the death of our main character Nikos....it left me under the impression that I was watching a Shakespearian play, which could not possibly be a good sign. And then all of the sudden we switch to New York, where then we are at a University. A class is seen having a lesson on the movie's subject Nikos, talking about all of his vicious crimes and everything else. All but a few of the class seem uninterested until the teacher offers them 50% credit to attend an art galley that features old Romanian art many of which feature Nikos. Well when a would be robber, panning a heists blood drips on the mask of Nikos, Nikos is somehow resurrected.

This movie's plot, is just way out there, sure there have been many of those sappy movies like KATE AND LEOPOLD have come out where some sort of historical figure crosses over into our world, but never to my knowledge in a horror film. It's kind of cheesy to have a Barbarian killer, in this film it almost seems like the budget was so low that they just had to not be choosey and go with what the could get. In any case, with NIKOS about 20 minutes into the film the plot mysteriously takes a backseat and dissolves, as all this movie seems to ride on is nonsense gore, On IMDb, I read someone say that this is a great 'party film' well I agree with that, as some of the blood is entertaining, but judged as a whole it does not hold up. I also noticed that about five of the killings are near identical in the film. On another note NIKO'S resurrection by the dripping of blood on the mask reminds me a lot of the CHILD'S PLAY films where Chucky is brought back to life from blood that is spilled into the brew of plastic.

The acting here is really nothing special to mention, not even Felissa Rose's performance was remotely good, and that's a very hard thing for me to say, The directors motive seemed to be, just to get his cast to say a few words only to be killed...like only as an excuse to get about 90 minutes of gore passed on as a film. This film had quite the ensemble of cameos from the likes of Debbie Rochon, Lloyd Kaufman, and regular EI Independent Cinema starlet Darian Caine, whom offers a sexy shower scene and then is ultimately killed at the hand of NIKOS. In fact all of the cameos are killed off, I'd say the most enjoyable was that of Lloyd Kaufman, just because I love the guy!

GORE METER
8/10 Gory.... a little bit too repetitive for my liking, but if you are looking for nothing but gore, this may be it.

MUSICAL SCORE
3/10 A cheesy rock soundtrack, I really didn't care much for it really

SPECIAL FEATURES RATING
5/10 We get a dull making of and behind the scenes featurette, and those are usually never boring. There's also interviews, music videos and a photo gallery among other things. But perhaps since I love Darian Caine, the best special feature is her uncut shower scene...

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
NIKOS, wouldn't be one that you'd watch all the time, maybe only with a crowd of people. But to me it's just not that memorable, and in my opinion not very good.
