THE REVIEW
In NECROVILLE Jack and his buddy Alex are two slackers that work at a video store. But, when they are fired from their just there, the are faced with a bit of a delima, especially Jack, who always has his girlfriend, breathing down his neck about getting a job to support her. So the next day, Jack and Alex brainstorm about the job possibilities they may choose. Just when working at an Adult book store, was about set to be the job of choice, they just so happen to see a commercial on TV. The commercial was for an extermination service called "Zom-B-Gone", an extermination service specializing in the extermination of Zombies, Vampires, Werewolves and just but any Horror spook you could think of. To Jack and Alex, Zom-B-Gone is the perfect job for them, so they rush down and apply for the job openings that are available. Jack and Alex are now real life Ghostbusters patrolling the streets riding the town of Necroville of any kind of treat, Jack armed with a baseball bat and his lethal hands, Alex with an Alex with an automatic rifle and Holy Water - it doesn't take long for the guys to start enjoying their new job. Vampires, Zombies, Werewolves....and even vicious house cats, they've combated with them all....but no enemy would be more tough than Clark. Clarke is a seemingly wise Vampire, not only that, he is an extra treat, especially to Jack, because Clark is Penny's ex-boyfriend. With Jack busy with the new job, Jack hasn't exactly been there for Penny, so she has been turning to the fanged Clark for some Vampire love and affection. But as any loving Boyfriend would, Jack isn't going to have it, so he and Alex, armed with their weapons pursue Clark which hopes of dispatching him in a way a Vampire has ever been dispatched before!
Boy was this movie fun! I'd best describe NECROVILLE as a mixture of both GHOSTBUSTERS and CLERKS, as it's already been summed up in the Albuquerque Press as being "If Kevin Smith directed GHOSTBUSTERS, and I whole-heartedly agree. NECROVILLE has all the Horror of a modern splatter-fest, but it also has equal the amount of humor that would be found in the raunchiest of teen comedies. This film is never meant to be taken seriously, it's a straight-up Horror-Comedy and knows it from the start. There are many scenes in NECROVILLE that are specifically set-up for laughs, and in my opinion it gets them - I enjoyed this low budget fun fest quite a bit, I have to say.
Directing this film are co-directors, Billy Garberina(who also stars as Jack), and B-Movie veteran Richard Griffin. Garberina, who here is directing his second feature, is usually primarily on the other side of the camera, and has been in a number of B-movies already, one of which being FEEDING THE MASSES directed by co-director Griffin. With Griffin also serving of Director of Cinematography, the two direct this story in the only way it could've been....like a live action comic book. There is tons of action, ton's of shooting, and tons of monster slaying of all types. As for the pacing, the film moves along pretty smoothly, honestly, I can't remember a moment where I was bored with it.
In a different sort of move I have never seen in a Horror movie before, instead of using your typical practical and psychical on screen gore, in NECROVILLE, the process of Rotoscope animation was used to apply the gore to actors as well as for other Special FX. Rotoscope is the type of animation made popular by films like Richard Linklatter's A SCANNER DARKLY in which effects are drawn over the actual film frames in post production. I have always seen this type of animation in cartoon-like form, but never in a way in which realistic looking items are added in - and before NECROVILLE, I wasn't even aware that this could be done. With that said the effects, such as the ammo shells being discharged from Alex's gun, and other things, look absolutely amazing. I have seen many low budget films that had to settle for fake looking CGI making the effects look completely disposable and less than stellar....perhaps if every low budget Horror film had the services of Burning Skull Studios, then maybe most of them wouldn't be as forgettable.
But forgettable NECROVILLE is not, in my opinion this film is the perfect example of just how enjoyable a low budget film can be if just a little effort is put into the script.

GORE
METER
5.5/10 As I said, the gore is fun. We have gunshot wounds, head explosions, gory flesh feasts and even a chainsaw attack just to name some.

MUSICAL
SCORE
NECROVILLE has an awesome soundtrack with music of all types - as Billy Garberina calls it in the DVD liner notes, it's an "International soundtrack" The standout track is without a doubt "Nobody Likes You When You're Dead" by the UK band Zombina and the Skeletones.

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
I really did enjoy NECROVILLE, and most of the time, that is just not something I can say when it comes to these B-Movies. Anyone whom likes GHOSTBUSTERS CLERKS or even SHAUN OF THE DEAD(a film that I do NOT like), is surely to like NECROVILLE. Billy Garberina and Adam Jarmon Brown with great chemistry between the two, create a duo in Jack and Alex, that's just impossible not to like....check out this film!
This DVD will be released on September 30, 2008
