THE REVIEW
In MUSTANG SALLY'S HORROR HOUSE, after overhearing a bunch of bikers talking about just how great the new Whorehouse, Mustang Sally's is out in Malawan, Josh and his group of horny teenage friends are a bit curious. Soon their curiosity would have them heading to the town of Malawan to partake in the women that house Madam, Mustang Sally has to offer - but they never expected just how much it would cost. When they get there Mustang Sally is quick to inform them that her girls are top of the line, and so is their price - at a mere $200 an hour a piece, the boys can have their way with the girl of their choice. Taken back by the price, the boys tell Sally that all they have is a maximum of $600 on them. Sally then makes a deal that, what they have will do, but it is up to the girls just how far they will be willing to go with them, unfortunately, where they are willing to go turns deadly for the unsuspecting teens.
As a fan of 80's cinema of all kinds, I just couldn't wait to see this one...the reason? Well, it stars Elizabeth "E.G." Daily of course! In the 80's she gave of "Dottie" the Girlfriend of Pee-Wee Herman in PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE, Cynthia's ill-fated friend "Lana" in BAD DREAMS, and "Loryn" in the Comedy, VALLEY GIRL. Up until now, E.G. has done various Cartoon voice-overs(such as the voice of Tommy Pickles in RUGRATS), but here she steps back in front of the camera as a Whorehouse Madam known as "Mustang Sally"
MUSTANG SALLY'S HORROR HOUSE is essentially AMERICAN PIE, meets a Slasher film the likes of APRIL FOOLS DAY, with an altered ending(those that have seen APRIL FOOL'S DAY will understand what I mean once they've seen it... but I don't want to give it away here). From the very beginning, one should be able to figure out that this is really a tongue-in-cheek Horror comedy and that it should only be taken partially seriously. The film is obviously low budget so MUSTANG SALLY'S HORROR HOUSE suffers from the same limitations/problems that many films at this level, such as having a base idea for the film, which is a Whorehouse full of prostitutes who kill their clients, but it takes a while to get to the reason the film was made - so therefore lots of filler is thrown in to pad out the time, so it takes awhile to get to any of the action it relies on. But when it does it turns into a rather fun thing to watch, all mostly due in part by the comedic wit of Daily and few of her supporting cast mates. The film also has a twist at the end, that I found to be creative for a film at this budget, but a few things happened to hurt it's lasting impact in the end. One being that the twist was partially revealed in a flashback by Josh, I feel that the filmmakers chose to reveal a bit to much here, and the other thing is that the twist has no real build-up and by the time it happens the few scenes prior aren't very understandable, but rather confusing altogether. It would've been a lot better have the ending not been a little tangled, but other than that, the story is actually pretty decent.... you didn't actually thing these prostitutes would kill without reason did you? Well, I agree that many of these films seem to indulge in gore with no purpose, but I thought that the reason MUSTANG SALLY'S HORROR HOUSE was at least plausible.
The acting is campy to go along with the campy film and plot, and I believe it was supposed to be. I found it to be fairly average, of course the acting isn't the greatest, but for my sake at least none of the characters are annoying, which is surprising, because in a Horror film like this, there always to be that character that you wish would just kick the bucket. Of course E.G. is considered the standout, which is what one would expect before seeing this, as Mustang Sally, Daily owns her character with a presence and a sense of humor, the film, just would've been a lot more dull, had it been absent.
Overall, MUSTANG SALLY'S HORROR HOUSE isn't the best in Horror Comedies, but it is by far not the worst. It did have a few portions that happened to be uneven and confusion, but looking past that, I did enjoy it for it's dark humor, and the somewhat humorous situations the boys find themselves in.

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
with prostitutes with names like Licklick, Titianna and Tushalean, you know what type of film this is going to be, so surely you're not going to go into it looking for a masterpiece. But if you enjoy campy, dark humor, and a film that isn't afraid to make fun of itself or it's subject matter, you might like this film. When watching MUSTANG SALLY'S HORROR HOUSE, I kept an open mind hoping to be entertained, and more or less, I was and nothing more. In other words, if nothing else, it's a decent way to kill some time if you have nothing else to do...
This DVD will released on August 7, 2007
