THE REVIEW
MINOTAUR tells a story of the greek myth of a god that was bred of both man and bull - thus they called it a bull god. Long ago, a kingdom bred a princess with a bull in order to spawn their own god creature, but when born, the creature later was so vicious that it slaughtered the kingdom's Prince. The kingdom was so shameful because something that they created would kill their leader that they blamed it on a man whom lived in a neighboring village. As punishment to this village, every 5 years the kingdom's servants would go to the village and collect 8 youths to feed to their god. This had been a custom for many years, that is until a young Sheppard named Leans that they love of his life, who was taken from the village during the last sacrifice may be alive and well. Theo masquerades as a youth who is to be sacrificed in order to gain entry into the palace, and while he watches the youths being lowered underneath the palace in cave, in which Minotaur feeds...Theo somehow finds a way inside. He has his sights set on finding his lover, but is also determined to be the only one in history to fight against, and slay the beast. During his quest, Theo is not alone however, you is joined by the few youths that had been expected to be the bull-god's dinner for the evening.
Well, here we go again, yet another movie based on Greek Mythology. The last one I reviewed, CERBERUS had the same level of low grade cheesiness, but I found myself enjoying it more. Before I watched MINOTAUR, I didn't expect too much, but since Tony Tood was in it there was still a little hope. But not even the Candyman himself could save MINOTAUR. MINOTAUR has a LORD OF THE RINGS type look and feel, it has a great plot don't get me wrong, but it is often slow and lethargic. The dialogue was uninteresting and to make it worse the film has some long slow scenes with a lot of it in between.
Usually when you see a film like this, you know it will have, often times less than stellar CGI work, well I will say that the Minotaur character for the film is highly impressive. The creatures movements and mannerisms were portrayed very realistically...often these films will over shadow the creature in darkness to hide flaws...such in the case of Cerberus - often times you couldn't even see the creature, on the account of darkness. Minotaur is here shown in all his glory, it's nice and he kills with mean looking horn impalements also...but here's a problem, he does this for every kill and it becomes repetitive and boring...he could have at least trampled someone to death or even ate them....
I wasn't too high on the acting in MINOTAUR.... my favorite performance was that of Tom Hardy, he was really the only actor given any dramatic scenes, but he shines in them. As far as Tony Todd goes....I believe that the man is too good for these movies he has been starring in lately, he deserves much better than this, and I don't understand why he isn't getting big time roles - his character here is just ridiculous.
MINOTAUR is a somewhat mediocre film and not nearly as good as some of the other mythological films that exist, but does have an awesome creature, that is just not good enough to save the day however.

GORE
METER
5/10 The gore is pretty good in the film, but as mentioned gets repetitive after awhile. But for what it's worth, the horn impalements look very gruesome...

MUSICAL
SCORE
2/10 I thought the the score just didn't deliver.... so much so that you even forget that there is one. |

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
MINOTAUR had the plot to be a good film, but it just didn't turn out as they had planned in my opinion. The film just didn't have that "something" that grabs you and keeps you in your seat for an hour and a half plus. I'd recommend this film only id you are bored and it's showing on TV...otherwise skip it.
