THE REVIEW
Wow, just wow! I haven't saw a film this intriguing since the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or Halloween. Funny I should mention that, because this film is filled with so many astounding references to those films, and I am saying this because it's a very good thing! Some of the similarities I saw that came to mind is when the people enter the slaughterhouse there are numerous close ups of the various appliances in the house....very very much de-ja-vu for me as this occurs in TCM, it was very pleasant, and brought a smile to one's face. Also when the killer moves in this film, his mannerisms are that reminiscent of Michael Myers, as the shape moved in Halloween. This film is highly and well executed for the budget it had, it leaves you believing that this film is on a speilberg budget! Another point i'd like to recognize is that the photography is absolutely brillant and never fails to host horrific scenes, the lighting, angles and colors are all top notch. The cast is also wonderful, and seemed to show pride in their involvement in this film, not hardly a weak performance at all by anyone here, I will tell you again how amazed I am by the concept of the killer in this film. I love the movements, his wardrobe, also the bag mask, was a wonderful touch and very much like Jason's original bag mask, prior to the hockey mask we all know.
I can officially say that after seeing this one, that it gives me hopes that the slasher genre of old, may not be extinct after all. I for one cannot wait to see more of Stevan Mena's work, let's not hope it's his last! |

GORE
METER
7/10 Pretty gory, if I say so myself, gorehounds or just moderate gore-seekers should be satisfied. |

MUSICAL
SCORE
9/10 Oh my God, the music was a beast in it's own entity! Very well composed, even Mena says he's not a composer, well he sure fooled me! Very Halloween like, it packs a chill factor |

SPECIAL
FEATURES RATING
8/10 Just as any Anchor Bay release, this dvd is packed with all kinds of goodies. We have an interesting trip back to the slaughter house the film takes place in, in this we learn of it's history. Also Mean talks about the troubles of making an indie film, and how it took Malevolence 6 years to complete! We also get deleted scenes, one of which is camoed by director Stevan Mena, as a police officer. Mena explains how during filming that he was almost arrested for law enforcement impersonation....funny stuff.
also included are the film's TV and radio spots, along with a trailer.
