PLOT
The Personal Concubine 2000 is a state of the art love doll that programs itself by watching x-rated movies. Steve is a lonely computer programmer who's been emotionally scarred by a series of bad relationships. After watching a late-night infomercial he is easily persuaded to purchase a PC-2000 in an effort to end his recent streak of loneliness. Steve's dreams of companionship are temporarily shattered when his new doll appears to be nothing more than a stitched-together corpse. Horrified at first, rather than spend another minute alone, Steve decides to keep her and attempt to make the most out of the situation. Steve quickly learns the PC-2000 is capable of learning more than just intimate acts and matters take a turn for the worse after the doll is accidentally exposed to an all-night horror movie marathon.

THE REVIEW
In David Quitmeyer's MAIL ORDER BRIDE, the idea of a sex toy is taken to an entirely new level, not anymore is a sex toy dormant and dull, but it is a living and breathing companion - well almost anyway.

The short film follows our main character whose name is Steve. Steve is a lonely young guy who during the day works as a computer programmer - but actually rather than working, he usually finds himself browsing various online dating websites - which has resulted in many unpleasant dating experiences for him. Well one day Stave, while watching Television sees an advertisement for a new brand of sex toy known as The Personal Concubine 2000. The PC-2000 is unlike any sex toy on the market as it takes the shape and form of a real woman and is programmed by viewing pornographic video tapes, or any thing else for the matter. Intrigued by the idea of finally having the pleasure of a lifetime, Steve jumps online abd customizes his very own PC - 2000 to his distinct liking. Before he knows it, the package does arrive and he doesn't waste anytime programming the robot to his very desires - but it isn't just that easy. It turns out that the porn tape in which Steve's brother Don had prepared for him did not record in it's entirety and a Horror movie anthology known as "DR. PHOBIA'S ALL NIGHT FRIGHT FEST" that was on the tape prior, still remained. Without Steve's awareness, just when he thinks his customized lover is learning the technique on pleasuring a man, the PC - 2000 has actually taken in hours of gruesome Horror and within it she has learned how to become a maniacal killer!

About a year ago, when I popped in a little indie flick by the name of SLAUGHTER DISC into my DVD player, writer/director David Quitmeyer managed to thoroughly impress me with his brand of unique Horror in which he blended 2 not too distant genres, Horror and Porn. So to prep for my review of his newest short, that I have had sitting on the shelf for a while now, MAIL ORDER BRIDE, I viewed the twisted tale once more. When watching MAIL ORDER BRIDE, for those who were shocked by SLAUGHTER DISC, will be quick to notice that this time around things are on a much tamer side. But what remains intact, is Quitmeyer's knack for creating an innovate and original storyline, that is unlike anything else. I for one thought the plot line for this short was all original, clever and brilliant......I mean, who would think up a story about a lifelike sex doll, whom is mistakenly programmed to kill by watching an all night Horror marathon? Well apparently David Quitmeyer - that's who...

But as much as the story excels in it's utter brilliance, it does take a bit of a downfall with some less than mediocre acting however. Of course returning is the star of the said SLAUGHTER DISC Caroline Pierce, as the ultimate programmable lover, Steve's sex doll - and since DISC, Caroline doesn't seem to have missed a beat - however she cannot save the film all on her own. In SLAUGHTER DISC Pierce excelled, partly because of her performance and the partly the performance of her co-star Robert Williams who had a genuine appeal as the character of porn loving Mike. Here in MAIL ORDER BRIDE however the lovely Caroline is unfortunately surrounded by a cast of wooden and lifelessly boring actors, that are centuries away from convincing anyone that they'd ever desire a beautiful woman like Ms. Pierce. (this all of course excludes the character of Dr. Phobia, played by Quitmeyer himself, who drowns himself in silliness, and it is fun to watch.) Overall MAIL ORDER BRIDE, although not as impressive as Quitmeyer's debut film SLAUGHTER DISC - is still creatively impressive, David has quite the imagination and he is definitely in the right profession as it gives him free reign to express it - I know I will be looking forward to any film STEEL WEB STUDIOS produces from here on out due to their ability to entertain me with fresh and unique ideas...

GORE METER
3.5/10 Not very graphic really, but there is in fact a scene in which the doll rips out the guts of one Steve (this is taught to the doll via a cooking show - imagine that!)

MUSICAL SCORE
5/10 The score once again helmed by Peter Gorritz.whom also tuned SLAUGHTER DISC, who returns with the atmospheric like riffs and tones much like the previous that added a depth to the story - I really enjoyed the DR. PHOBIA theme a lot.

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
Much like SLAUGHTER DISC, I really enjoyed this short film entitled MAIL ORDER BRIDE from the same folks. As I mentioned the film isn't as great nor is it as detailed as SLAUGHTER DISC, but it still has the creativity and one-of-a-kind style that will more than likely become Director David Quitmeyer's very own trademark - I do recommend checking this one out...even more so if you enjoyed the previous film....
