THE REVIEW
In THE LEGEND OF LUCY KEYES, Jean and Guy Cooley. along with their two daughters, wish to escape the city life after an horrific accident took the life of their youngest daughter. Guy has excepted a job in Worcester Massachusetts putting up windmills on an old farm land in which they will live. Upon arriving they soon discover that all of the townspeople as well as a group of neighbors are against the project. Soon Jean discovers that 250 years prior a young girl by the name of Lucy(a name in which she shares with one of Jean's daughters) went missing and was never seen or heard from again. Through time, the Cooley's hear tales of how Lucy Keyes' mother, Martha never ended her search for her daughter and killed whomever came onto the property.... some say that they can still hear Mrs. Keyes call out for her missing child and that she haunts the land. A little later, however, the Cooley's uncover a hidden agenda that reveals far more than the town is telling them....

When I first heard of this film, the first thing that grabbed my attention about it was "inspired by a true story". I usually love films of such nature that are based on true facts, but THE LEGEND OF LUCY KEYES SEEMED a little too fabricated for dramatic purposes to me. I say this because sure the actual true facts are probably fascinating to learn about but too many non fictional aspects in this film over shadow the "true" in this story. This film tries to be suspenseful in the vein of an EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE or a POLTERGEIST kind of way but to me it is unsuccessful and falls flat, the only true scares happen in dream sequences and a scene towards the end but it seems just a little too tame for the serious film that it was aiming to be.

Also to make a film's suspense effective you must have actors that give their all to make their fears believable in the least bit. I found the acting in THE LEGEND OF LUCY KEYES to be rather dull and uninspired, with no emotion whatsoever....almost as if they were reading their lines from cue cards or something.

Sorry for the brief manner in which this review is presented, THE LEGEND OF LUCY KEYES, had all of the groundwork to be something but, had characters that just failed to keep one entertained which made the film's plot that much less interesting.

GORE METER
2.5/10 Basically dry in the blood and guts department, most of the gore happens in the dream angles in which the gore in edited within spontaneous quick cuts...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MUSICAL SCORE
2/10 The score is as inspiring as the film itself, rather dull that added no impact nor excitement at all.

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
I expected to like this film a whole lot more from the descriptions I had read. But the truth be told, in my opinion THE LEGEND OF LUCY KEYES is a film that has nothing that excites the viewer but believes it does, I wouldn't say that I recommend this film...

This DVD will be released on September 5, 2006.
