THE REVIEW
I had heard about "The Lonely Ones" from a friend of mine who is also friends with the director. I was told that this was still a work in progress and that an opinion was needed. I agreed to it, so what I am reviewing here is an almost 2 hour rough cut of the film...
The film starts off as being in the year of 1988, we meet a local sorority and they are all sitting around speaking about local urban legends and things of that nature. At this time mysterious blood sucking creatures intrude on their surroundings attacking and eating things in their paths. The police, now in present day have yet to find these missing girls and are clueless of what might have become of the girls. We are now greeted with our cast of characters who are planning a trip to the mountains for a stay at the character known as Tifa's cabin. Prior to arriving at the cabin, the group meets a mysterious man that warns the group about what happened in 1988, he says it was in the same remote area. When our cast of character's finally arrive at the destined cabin.... really strange things begin to happen, they suspect that the myth of the missing sorority, may have something to do with these occurrences. Upon further inspection they find out that the sorority attacks happened at the very cabin in which they are staying!
This is where it all picks up, This mysterious man by the name of Blake shows up and says that he knows all about what happened and for the group to watch out that they are being preyed upon by these evil beings. Blake also asks who owns the dreadful cabin and when Tifa confirms that she owns it, blake shoots her with a loaded shotgun in the chest, He then reveals that Tifa is not whom she seems to be...
This plot I will say is very good. It is well written by David Michael Quiroz Jr. . But with the rest story you must have other elements of the film that do work in your favor. What I mean by this is that the film drags on just a little too long and the abundance of dialogue waters the film down a bit. Do't get me wrong here. Dialogue is great and it is an essential piece in ANY film, but when you have people sitting around and conversing for nearly an hour of the films run time, with little to no action.... especially for a modern Horror effort you are in for some trouble! I will admit I was a little bored by the time the second kill came along which was well in to the 1 hour mark, I script like this just calls for more action and gore and, it did happen but it just takes to long to get there. And another letdown i'd like to point out is that when there was gore, the lighting outside was so bad that the darkness over shadowed any gore that was shown, this in almost through half of the film and it ruins it's chances. The Director of Photography should've known this was a problem when shot, it was very bad photography. Without the gore and Fx you are just watching a lot of talking, well the film has these things, but you just can't see any of it.
The direction from David is a little average than most here. I understand the budget was low so considering that, a decent job was done. He also did some weird split panel cam effect at the beginning that just seemed out of place and I didn't quite get it.
I cannot say the same for the acting, some of the acting is just plain bad here. The actors act as if they have little or no other experience except for Jose Rosete whom plays Blake, I understand he has acted in several films.
I still see this film as needing a lot of tweaking, the story is promising...have they had of dropped some dialogue and had a better DP, I would imagine this a better film.

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
Although I am sure this film has not seen it's last day in the editing room, I am reviewing from what I have seen. This film definitely needs to be shortened as I think 1 hour and 40 some odd minutes is too long to drag this film on. Also the lack of action really brings it down other that what I have mentioned, it is an ok film.
