THE REVIEW
JOLLY ROGER, is a slasher movie that follows the the formula of the basic slasher, one killer is on the loose killing off people, yet no one knows whom they are. While certainly not at all original, JOLLY ROGER still manages to keep you entertained.

The story is of Jolly Roger, a pirate whom in which, is brought back from the dead when an ancient treasure chest is opened unleashing his spirit. Jolly Roger has one thing on his mind and that is revenge! Years prior, Roger LaForge, after robbing another ship of it's gold, was brutally killed by his own partners after they disagreed to participate in the robbery. His shipments, then stole the gold for themselves. Roger is determined to get back what was once his, in the town in which he sailed, Cutter's Cove. Cutter's Cove, being a town that was founded by his former crewmates.... he goes after their descendents killing them one by one, all the while trying to accomplish his goal of regaining his treasure.

The story of JOLLY ROGER is an entertaining one, with a little mystery mixed in i'd say. At first, you do not know why Jolly Roger is being so selective in whom he kills, only to slowly learn later on. Personally I believe that this was a great way to keep the viewers hooked, just to find out what Roger's motive is.

The special fx gore and make-up in JOLLY ROGER is great, and are executed by Richard Miranda, every time I see this guy's work it is truly amazing. I cannot believe that The Asylum always seems to have such top-rate fxs at such a low budget.... but I have seen many occasions where this is the case!.

This film does have some fairly good acting with the exception of a few things here and there. Rhett Giles was really wonderful as the title character, Jolly Roger. The way he would deliver his witty one liners before a kill is outstanding....Giles certainly has a better performance than he has in the film FRANKENSTEIN REBORN here. Another surprise is, just how good Tom Nagel actually was in this film. He does a great job as Alex, the guy with a criminal record, thus that making him paranoid. Along with him is Kristina Korn as Jessie, and Thomas Downey, as the ever so popular and bitter, Chief Mathias. Both are great, but to me one of the greatest performances in JOLLY ROGER is Thomas Downey...I was impressed.

This film has very good gore and some very sharp editing. The film starts out really slow and sometimes the story may get cheesy...but in the end JOLLY ROGER : MASSACRE AT CUTTER'S COVE, is quite the fun film!

GORE METER
6.5/10 Really good gore, there is blood spewing out from everywhere! me get multiple beheadings and severed limbs. which makes it even more fun even though it may tend to get repetitive, it's still there.

MUSICAL SCORE
4/10 Basically the film's soundtrack is just music reused from the title sequence. The 2 songs I remember were sort of rock sounding....with one of them sounding a lot like AC/DC's "Back In Black", but maybe i'm hearing things?....

SPECIAL FEATURES RATING
3.5/10 The Behind the Scene's feature was kind of dry this time, and does offer too much insight into the film, unlike some of the featurette's The Asylum usually has. Also included are several deleted scenes and commentary.

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
This film was like a lot of the different slashers you and I have seen. I don't know why but for me, they never tend to get old. There are some good ones then there are some bad ones, I'd consider this to be a "good one". Check it out!
