THE REVIEW
From Screenwriter/Director Rolfe Kanefsky comes his dark comedy take on the classic story of "Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde". This story happens to have been done over and over again while not all but only some were affective, what Rolfe does with his film Jacqueline Hyde proves to be on the affective side of the spectrum.

Our story here follows a young woman named Jackie Hyde, she is a struggling telemarketer that is frustrated with her job and down on her luck. Soon her luck drastically changes when she inherits the mansion of a grandfather she never seemed to know that she had. Her Grandfather happened to be a world renowned Magician as well as an inventor. The mansion is so huge in size that it takes a while for Jackie to uncover all that the place has to offer. It is not until one day that Jackie finds an experimental potion that her Grandfather had been working on that her life begins to change! Jackie begins consuming large doses of the mysterious orange substance and notices shocking results....it's seems that under the influence of this potion all of Jackie's wants, needs and wishes become a reality. All seems to be going well for her until one day she gets the desire to take the form of a beautiful Supermodel from a magazine, this will reveal to be a great mistake as this will unleash Jackie's manical alter-ago Jacqueline. With the shape shifting abilities that Jacqueline takes over, she uses them to seduce and kill innocent victims. Rolfe Kanefsky brings to life a true battle within one's self, as Jackie must fight off the evil that lives deep inside of her.

JACQUELINE HYDE is much more than I expected, as I have seen the many interpretations of this story...it's been done in the midnight movies as well as films such as "The Nutty Professor" and yes even those cheesy Eddie Murphy remakes. Jacqueline Hyde, however is beautifully shot by Kanefsky. His story is told in a more sexual manner and also what differents this film is that is told through the point of view of a female this time. I personally thought that this story was great. We start off with boring old Jackie Hyde, whom doesn't have much luck with the guys, but then soon later Jackie the once shy hermit of a person, transforms into a sex charged bombshell powerhouse that any man in their right mind wouldn't pass up. It is really fun and at the same time comical to witness all the transformation that this potion is capable of doing, If Jackie wants bigger breast, a smaller waistline, whatever her heart desires, it's just a request away... the problem is, is the psychical adjustment she must face.

The only thing remotely wrong with this story has to be believe ability, see, in the film Jackie tells everyone that she comes across that Jacqueline is her sister from out of town. The first alert is, well 2 sisters that share the same name? Well the character explained that no, one was named "Jackie and she was Jacqueline" That just made the surrounding characters look more insane than Jacqueline.

I must say though that the acting by the two ladies in the two leading roles were fabulous. In a number of scenes they often have to play off of each other, for instance in mirror scenes, in which one was talking to the other, they showed great chemistry together. The two ladies, well they kind of made the role of Jackie(played by Gabriella Hall) look like a dweeb/nerd but in all actually she is quite pretty. Jacqueline played by (Blythe Metz) is a complete knockout and she really captures the ever-so apparent sinister urge needed for the diabolical character that she plays, and also possessing the sex appeal that will most likely make any man easy prey.

The Photography as well as the direction all are a key part to what makes JACQUELINE HYDE work. The two women happen to fall in love with the same man and when the truth comes out, it all ends with interchanging transformation sequences that are visually stunning. Through artsy eroticism and stylized gore, coupled with abundant dark humor, such as this, JACQUELINE HYDE reels the viewer in as if they might be a Jacqueline's next victim!

GORE METER
3/10 Not very gory, however it is all done in a very eye pleasing manner....we do have a decapitation and a very cool broken wrist bone through the skin. .
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MUSICAL SCORE
2/10 once again I have saw a movie with not much of a musical score....at least one noticeable. I was too busy being interested into the story to really notice....

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
Once again this was a movie in which I did not expect to be all that great. What I got was a beautiful looking and somewhat funny at times dark comedy, that succeeds in many aspects. This film will be coming out in October 2005, I would recommend this to any fans of women, horror, cult, creature features and all the like...
