THE REVIEW
Well I have had THE HAZING up on my self of screeners for months now, and I now have had a chance to check it out. I have heard raves upon raves about it and now I can see why, as I do fully agree with everyone else. THE HAZING is an amazing accomplishment, it brings back the old look and feel of the 80's horror genre in a truly authentic way, not only an accomplishment in doing that, but also for the director and the actors.
What happens in this film is, a group of college students go on a scavenger hunt as part of a hazing for a frat/sorority. When two of them decide to steal an ancient staff and a book of spells from a wise professor, the old professor is accidentally murdered. That next night the group of students are ordered to stay at a rumored haunted house where murders had taken place, but this isn't all that they should worry about, Determined to get his belongings back Professor Kapps' spirit still lingers and by the power of his book of incantation, he transfers his soul into some of the students with the power of spell. The film really gets psychological as the students can't tell if whom is whom and who to trust as Kapps plays endless mind games with the young group.
First Off, let me say thank God that all the hype is true about this film I loved it, it reminded me of some of the late 80's flicks, most prominently Night of the Demons. Being that Night of the Demons, is one of my favorite B movies ever I enjoyed this even more. From the atmosphere to scenery, and to camerawork this film showcased just what new horror film's are lacking these days and what most fans sorely miss.
The acting is great in THE HAZING, all the way from veteran actor Brad Dourif to first-timer Brooke Burke. I enjoyed all of the acting, and yes I thought Parry Shen did exceptionally well, even though I am truly not his biggest fan. This was my first time seeing Nectar Rose, but how cute is she? She does a great job as the ditsy blonde Delia, I just hope to see more of her in the future. And now to the woman whom will always own a piece of my heart, Tiffany Shepis. I have to say that this has to be Tiffany's best performance, if not ever then so far in her career. In the movie they have her dressed up like some sort of alien Power Ranger/fantastic 4 member and Tiff wore that suit like a champ, still cussing like a sailor as she always does....classic determination.
This is film that hardly ever has a dull moment in it, Just a fun ride, that will bring back a lot of memories of those great 80's genre films.

GORE
METER
6/10 The gore is nicely done and well stylized. We get decapitations, needles in the face.... a severed 10 foot tongue etc. |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
MUSICAL
SCORE
6/10 The score is mostly instrumental but I think it really does add it's own dept to the film.

SPECIAL
FEATURES RATING
5/10 For features we get a few deleted scenes, bloopers and interviews. But perhaps the best put is behind the scenes video shot by Tiffany Shepis.

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
I think that, speaking as of right now this is Kanefsky's "masterpiece". I say "right now" because, we still have NIGHTMARE MAN yet to come. I really enjoyed THE HAZING and found it to be very nostalgic as I do miss these types of films, and I do HIGHLY recommend this one!
