THE REVIEW
Each time I review a film, I try to find at least one thing about it that I do like. In the case of this film, HAUNTED HOUSE, I cannot honestly give you even one thing, Not that I expected much from a film, with such a generic name like HAUNTED HOUSE anyway.
This film's plot is simple. A few filmmakers send some actors...or so I think, into a haunted house. What they don't know is that these filmmakers, have rigged the house with traps and effects to genuinely scare them. But things seem a little out of the ordinary when their props fail and spooky stuff really starts to happen in the house.
This film's plot is so basic and flimsy, that it fails after merely 5 minutes of being on screen. What the producers of this film were trying to do was obviously cash in on BLAIR WITCH'S success and failed miserably. BLAIR WITCH was not a very good film at all, but it captured a raw feeling and an emotion that no other film did back in 1999, With no other way for me to put this, this film was flat out boring, The film is equipped with all kinds of the cheap scares, that maybe an episode of Scooby Doo would have, and the suspense of that of a Lifetime Channel movie.
The acting in HAUNTED HOUSE, was totally uninspired, lethargic and also annoying. Usually in a horror movie the actor's job is to portray his or her character in a way that develops a bond between character and viewer. In HAUNTED HOUSE'S case I don't believe the audience would really give a shit whether the people died on not.....everyone here is completely 1 dimensional.
On top of all that, nothing really goes on in the movie. All we have are the kids going into the house, while we have 2 of them waiting outside for the rest to come out, a few ghosts(I guess). and a total of 2 on screen deaths, I think I counted. Honestly there is nothing more.... this has to be one of the worst screenplays I have ever seen played out on screen....they try to keep you interested at the end by saying "their tape was found" but who really cares? We have already seen this....

GORE
METER
1/10 Very little to no gore at all really. |

MUSICAL
SCORE
2/10 some sort of ambience music, it's sad when a generic score like this one is far better than the movie it scored.

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
This has to be the worst screenplay ever to be played out on screen that I have ever seen. This movie was also a little like HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION, with the whole setup that the house had but nothing more. When a movie has me eager to check to see just how much time it has before it ends, you know it's bad. Which this does. My list of the "worst movies I have ever seen" is relatively, a short one.....but add this one to it.. |
