THE REVIEW
HALLOWEEN 5 takes place one year after the events in the previous film. After seemingly possessed by her Uncle Michael that night one year ago, Jamie brutally stabbed her foster mother. Jamie is now in a children's clinic receiving treatment, she has been mute for the past year and hasn't spoken a word since the stabbing. In a strange twist, Jamie begins having visions of Michael and it just so happens that her Uncle has not died as a result of the explosion thought to have killed him. The young girl seems to have some sort of telepathic bond with her Uncle and he can sense what he will do next. Not being able to speak, Jamie struggles to let what she knows about him out. Dr. Loomis returns to find that his nemesis is not dead and he is not surprised at all, stating "Hell would not have him. It is Loomis' plan, along with Haddonfield Police's plan to lure Michael Myers we he feels safe the most, his home - there they try to put an end to his wrath of evil for good.
This is the sequel out of all 7 of them that was written shot and released in the shortest amount of time - less than a year. After the hugely successful HALLOWEEN 4, the production company rushed their way into the project to cash-in on the still lingering success from the last. The end result was a film that, while a majority hated it, some quite loved it. I am one of those that loved it. Sure it is the HALLOWEEN film with the most loose ends, and not one bigger than the man dressed in all black, donning steel-toed cowboy boots and a hat. This element of the story, to this day has not been answered and even the cast nor crew seem to know who he is either, Besides the "Man in Black" mystery, HALLOWEEN 5 also had dubbing(in one scene it is blatantly obvious), a rushed reshot ending(it was supposed to end with the battle we see between Myers and Loomis at the house - the jail scene was later shot and added) and without question the most annoying character EVER in Horror cinematic history in Tina(my God), but I still find it as being very well shot and entertaining film.
I especially enjoy HALLOWEEN 5 for it's more darker approach by Director Dominique Othenin-Girard, this film was very darker than any of the previous sequels at the time, and in HALLOWEEN 6 we saw the series take the darkest turn that it ever would take - and in my opinion HALLOWEEN 6 destroyed the suspense HALLOWEEN is known for by being a little too serious. A lot of fans complain about the telepathic bond angle as well, but I liked it and found it to be clever and different, my only problem with it, is that it doesn't go into detail at all as to how Jamie gained such power. Don Shanks brought a familiar presence to the film as the menacing Myers, but I have to say that the mask was terrible in this film, it looked a bit over sized - about like one you'd get at a costume store.... it clearly does not have the appeal that previous or even the present film masks have had.
This is a film that is again driven by HALLOWEEN 4 stars, Donald Pleasence and Danielle Harris, both reprising their roles. In this one we lose fan favorite Rachel, played by Ellie Cornell, and it is a true shame - because, besides the main stars and supporting actor Jeffrey Landman as Billy Hill, we are left with nothing more than annoying characters - most notably the character of Tina. Danielle Harris never gives up as her performances in both HALLOWEEN 4 and 5 will always remain captivating....
In the end, yes in my opinion HALLOWEEN 5 is one of the best sequels in the series(I may even like it a little better than HALLOWEEN 4), but it does seem a little rushed - and in fact that was the case.

GORE
METER
5.5/10 a little gorier than the last, this one offered up a few impalements that were great for the time period. Not as gory as a FRIDAY THE 13TH, but in a more subtle way in true fashion by KNB EFX.

MUSICAL
SCORE
6/10 I kinda like this score better than HALLOWEEN 4's I don't know why, it just seemed more suspenseful.

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
The overall appeal of this film is that it is hated by some, but also regarded special to the rest. I can't tell you how everyone is going to feel about it, but in my opinion, I think HALLOWEEN 5 is a fun film if you can look past it's obvious flaws.....I highly recommend it!
