PLOT
When a group of high school grads accidentally hit a bear cub with their car, they soon come face-to-face with their worst nightmare: a massive mother Grizzly hell-bent on revenge. With no cell phones, no weapons, no light and only tension mounting, all the students have are their wits, a prayer, and each other.

THE REVIEW
Looking to celebrate, a group of four friends decide to go off-roading in a barricaded wooded area. On there way there, and in the midst of their excitement, the teens accidently strike a bear cub in the middle of the road with their vehicle. Soon they find themselves with no vehicle as it breaks down - which leaves them to travel on foot within the woods. But in the woods, they would not be alone, as the mother grizzly of the bear cub that they hit earlier, has sniffed them out and is out to kill.

GRIZZLY RAGE, the latest installment into the Genius Products' Creature Feature line. the "Mean Eater" series, is just that, a Creature Feature, and it is a heavily cliqued one. The story here has very little to go on and is basically as simple as it can be. Lets see, 4 friends decide to off-road in an area that is prohibited, they run over a bear cub, they wreck, and the said wreck renders their car useless. And oh yeah, remember that bear cub I mentioned? well It's mother is pissed off because of what they did - yeah it has just about every staple of B-Moviedom imaginable. In this film, the teens get attacked by the Grizzly which leaves one of them dead, the remaining 3 freak out for a bit until they realize that they should run back to their abandoned truck, that....miraculously somehow starts after the engine clearly failed in an earlier scene. The speed off....but oops, some how they run the truck of of a short cliff as we watch it flip and tumble. With all 3 now cut up and bruised in some way, 1 of the 2 remaining males heads up the hill looking for help. This is when he comes upon an old house, that seems to have only been used in the film, just so that the film would have another object of attention for the viewer, in hopes that they wouldn't be too bored - because honestly most of the film is pretty bland. While searching for help, the character is spotted by our Grizzly and is attacked(as predicted), thus putting the beast back on the trail of he and his friends.

There's not much to say about GRIZZLY RAGE as there isn't much to tell. The story is very simple, and like many B-Movie Creature Features, GRIZZLY RAGE seems to be yet another low budgeter put together for the sake of having an animal of sorts killing people. The is use of a real bear here and in the more psychical scenes, it's obvious that it is mostly artificial as colors. tones and everything don't exactly add up. It looks decent enough, but the fact that the filmmakers want us to believe that this bear is vicious is kind of ridiculous - is noted on IMDb that the bear was actually tame and all of the growling used in the film, was later dubbed in. While on the subject of the bear, I have to say that the bear attacks are just laughable - it seems that every time a victim is attacked they are thrown violently across the screen by the bear in a furious rage...you just can't help but laugh.

Director David DeCoteau is known for making bad Horror movies, or better yet, bad movies in general. With his Horror flicks, it's apparent that each time he makes one, he tries to go the serious route, but no matter what, they always seem to come off as having a feel that is more of a comedy. GRIZZLY RAGE is another one of those, as there's not much going on, and when something does.... you just can't take it serious when you are expected to.

GORE METER
2.5/10 Blood splatter that sprays across the camera with every kill, bloody claw marks, and a bear trap wound.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MUSICAL SCORE
3/10 Various rock tracks through out, along with some very lightly used suspense scoring. In my opinion, more times than not, the soundtrack was totally out of place and the music didn't fit particular scenes at all.

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
Overall, GRIZZLY RAGE is nothing truly special, and I didn't believe it would be to begin with. But as always, I went in with an open mind, just hoping for a little enjoyment, and there is a little, but it is for things that were unintentional by the filmmakers.

This DVD will be released on May 6, 2008
