s part of a new rehabilitation program, eight unrepentant young adults must serve a week of community service in a remote California forest preserve known as Grizzly Park. Under the supervision of stalwart, no-nonsense Ranger Bob (Glenn Morshower), this group of rotten-to-the-core bad apples is offered an opportunity to seek redemption on their journey through the woods. But while Ranger Bob seeks to provide both literal and spiritual guidance to the reluctant campers, an escaped serial killer with an insatiable bloodlust has also found his way into the park. As it happens, however, he's not the only lethal hunter on the loose... |

THE REVIEW
GRIZZLY PARK finds 8 delinquents who are sent to a California state park to perform community service as part of their rehabilitation. The park, named Grizzly Park, is overseen by Ranger Bob. The park seems relatively safe as the bears that used to inhabit the park, haven't been seen since sometime in the 1920s. With everyone feeling safe, the teens as well as Ranger Bob head up the trail to clean. Mean while, a serial killer is loose among them, they didn't know it had the time, but the said killer, masquerading as their driver, had drove the group to the park - shortly sfter killing the original driver. On the other side of the park with the killer willing to kill anyone who stand in his way, the teens and their Ranger have no idea that they may have potential danger coming there way. But as it would be neither the killer nor they would be safe from another unexpected obstacle that awaits them both - a big hungry bear that still makes 'Grizzly Park his home.
About a month ago, I reviewed a similarly titled film called GRIZZLY RAGE, they were so similar in title that I was getting the two mixed up, because I knew beforehand, that i'd be reviewing this one as well. Other than their titles and that they both involve bears, that's where the similarities end. It looks as if this film, GRIZZLY PARK had a bigger budget, as it's production values are slick, and it's appearance is nice looking. Over the last few months I have reviewed quite a few Creature Features, and to tell the truth, it is very hard to find a good one these days, no matter what creature the film tries to tackle.....but there are some that have been fun exceptions. GRIZZLY PARK falls right in the middle when considering this, because it's not a bad film in any way, but it's not necessarily a great one either.
The film's setup is good, from it's setting and characters, it's fun and kind of reminds me of WRONG TURN 2. Both films had a cast of characters whom all had very different attitudes and lifestyles(in this case the teens also have crimes that they have comitted that differ), who are put out in the wilderness with danger lurking within. But the big difference comes from GRIZZLY PARK as it has what i'd call, a really "stop and go plot. It takes this film a while to really get going, and then something finally happens, and after that we are again left to wait for anything of any significance to happen. But don't get me wrong here, the action involving the bear makes GRIZZLY PARK fun, it's just that the film's slower pace in certain areas make it uneven, and maybe a little semi-tiring.
The acting in GRIZZLY PARK is,decent i'd say ny B-Movie standards. We have a 2 scene cameo from Rance Howard(father of Ron and Clint - it's always great to see him), and Glenn Morshower who has gotten a little popular as of late, being in things such as the FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS TV series, and one of my personal favorite movies. TRANSFORMERS. In every role he takes, it seems as if he is always playing a role that of an authority figure, who dons some kind of uniform. Here, that is no different, here he wears a park ranger uniform as the character of Ranger Bob. As for the other characters, they're decent, as none of the characters are very detailed and well-developed. It was great seeing Emily Foxler from KILLER PAD, again, here as she plays the pseudo airhead, Bebe.
Overall, GRIZZLY PARK is a decent film with some fun moments, as well as some funny ones, due to a little sprinkle of comedy that is added here and there, but unfortunately the film's biggest setback and fault is it's aforementioned slow plot.

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
When I got finished viewing GRIZZLY PARK, I wondered how I was going to rate it. Sure it's a decent "bear on the lose" flick, and it is better than most films of the like, but I did find it to be unnecessarily padded and slow in areas. I think this one would be worth at least once.
This DVD will be released on May 27, 2008
