THE REVIEW
In THE DROP, Carter is a young college student whom is approached with a job proposal, the job is an odd one... but naive Carter see's it as a way to make some quick money for college and also money for he and his fiancée to get married on. The job; to drive a sports car to LA, to a garage in which someone would be waiting for him to make "The Drop"(dropping off the car). Sounds simple enough but when Carter arrives at the garage, upon further inspection he discovers a black briefcase in the trunk of the car. A curious Carter opens the case and when opened the case holds some sort of power, a power that glows a vivid blue. Opening the case seems to have been a mistake for Carter, because soon after a mob-like group shows up headed by "Mr. Zero". Mr. Zero is quick to accuse Carter of stealing what belongs to his employer which happens to be the mysterious brief case. Confused of what is happening Carter is suddenly in a game of cat and mouse as he fights for his life.
When I first heard about THE DROP, MTI was marketing(still is) as a "supernatural thriller". To me, the only thing supernatural about it is the glowing briefcase, and as far as suspenseful.... well, not hardly. In order for a film to be suspenseful, you have to first care for the characters and with this film, I couldn't care less. The characters displayed here are one dimensional and you really do not get to know them at all, but never the less these bad guys show up and are in a heated 90 minute argument over a dumb glowing briefcase.... They show up out of nowhere. The Main character, Carter is no different at all. We later know that years ago his father was given the same assignment to make "The Drop", and that is the reason Carter is appointed - he's in the same bloodlines. But it makes no sense....the film does nothing to explain why someone is even appointed the assignment, after all it had to start somewhere.
The acting is terrible here, and I am not sure it is the cast's fault this time. The cast did have to act out a plot that made no sense at all and they had to try their best I suppose, but often in the film you can almost sense that the actors didn't even know what the hell they were talking about. The only reason to watch this film acting wise is for Sean Young....she's great but definitely deserves much more promising roles than this...
Horrible plot with nothing going on but a lot of running and gazing stares, and oh yeah a glowing briefcase!

IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
To me, THE DROP accomplishes not much in the form of entertainment. It just doesn't have a plot that would keep anything interesting, and in my opinion, it is just very boring.... It surprises me that MTI would distribute something like this when so many are still out there and deserving.. I can think of a few. I don't really recommend this film.
