| THE REVIEW I will start off by saying that I did not really enjoy THE DEVIL'S PLAYTHING. I have just finished viewing it and I feel like I have actually just wasted an hour and a half of my time..... I still do not really know what it was about. This film takes place at a castle, where years prior a lesbian vampire was killed for her uncontrollable urge for female blood. During her slaying, she muttered out a spell that promised her return for her to once again feed on female blood. When a group of people gather to stay at the castle, weird things start to occur on the eve of the vampire's return. The Housekeeper gathers all of her servants into a dungeon beneath the castle to perform nude rituals to ensure the young vamp's return. These rituals also stir up the sexual desires of each of the visitors. Now I really don't know how this is going to pass as a review, because as I have already stated, I couldn't understand this film at all. THE DEVIL'S PLAYTHING in the end is something really incoherent and really hard to follow. This is mainly do to heavy accents that are really hard to understand when you hear them... and one would have to constantly keep a finger on the volume or rewind to do so. You would think that some of the things that did not make sense in the film would all come to a head and make sense in it's conclusion but it does not, as the film's ending doesn't make anymore sense than the rest of the film. However, erotica is the same in every case, and I think that is one of the strong things that this film has going for it, some of the women are relatively attractive here. In my opinion this is one of those cases in which erotica is the only thing working for a film but it is just not great enough to make it any more interesting. |

SCORE 2/10 The Only real music here is the bongo music playing in the dungeon during the sexy rituals. But even this music some how becomes annoying. |

FEATURES RATING 4.5/10 The interview included as an extra, with Joe Sarno, even though short is far more interesting than the film itself in my opinion. It was fun hearing him talk about the film and how it came about. |

IMPRESSION OF THE FILM I have to say that I am so sorry to EI Independent Cinema that this review is kind of butchered and overly negative. But with that said, I am hear to give my honest opinion on the films that I see and this is mine for this particular film. I am am impressed however with the beautiful transfer, although a little rough because the film is dated, it looks as good as it possibly could. In closing, I would have to say that I couldn't give this one an honest recommendation... |
