THE REVIEW
As part of my job, when I miss a certain flick on the first time around I have the opportunity to see them upon my request. Such is the case with BLOODY BILL, I missed it when it was released, simply because I was not yet signed with THE ASYLUM, let's just say that I am glad I finally checked this out!
The film takes place when a high school debate team, are on their way to a competition. On their way they mistakenly hit a man, or so they believe with their van. In reality the man uses this as a ploy to hijack them and orders the group to continue driving. The man orders them to a location where they spot an abandoned car, the man believes belongs to his drug partner. Darrel. Upset, the hijacker, Earl thinks he has been shafted in the two's cocaine deal and orders the group to drive in order to find his partner. This leads our group to an abandoned ghost town, where something just isn't right. It seems that the town in haunted by a legend on a confederate general, whom savagely murdered people long ago. General "Bloody Bill" Anderson killed and murdered people unjustly and without much reason at all. As revenge on Bill, several of his union members mercilessly beat and killed "Bloody Bill". Now years later, Bill is back and it seems he has brought the whole town of zombies with him...
I first will say that this film is not all that original. If you compare the film MINER'S MASSACRE, with this one, you are sure to get yourself ton's of similarities. If you look closely at these two film's they are almost identical in plot; "Historical figure killed, he come's back only to kill once more" and both films happen in a ghost town......imagine that! I liked both films pretty much (FYI). However Bloody Bill does have something cool that is different and sets it apart. I really liked how all of the zombies seemed to feed of of the energy and hunger of "Bloody Bill", he was like their battery. This Meaning if Bill Dies.... then so do they.
What we have here is a film based on a true character. Bill Anderson was a real confederate and really committed the crimes, but not much is more know regarding his own slaying. In this case, the writers got sort of creative and fed off of the known facts and gave it their own spin. In this case what the writers did was, make a true story more interesting than it probably actually was.
The acting here is mixed. sometimes it was good, and sometimes it was god awful. Let start with the bad, perhaps one of the most annoying performances I have ever witnessed, was given by Gregory Bastien, as the hijacker "Earl". No offense to Bastien, but this guy was terrible in this film, you wanted his character to die quickly so you wouldn't hear him no longer, I'm sorry, but the over-the-top, Wesley Snipes wannabe act just does not cut it. The best performances come from our females, Denise Boutte, as "Mandy is great in her supporting role. But it is the performance of Chelsea Jean that caught my eye and really stands out. She plays Gwen, the one that is shy at first it seems but by end of the movie she is the one standing her ground. Great performance by Chelsea, I only could hope that she takes on more films.....the only slip up that I didn't like was when she donned a southern accent in order to trick Bill. It just didn't sound authentic.
With the amazing scenery and vivid photography and direction by Werner, I was surely entertained by DEATH VALLEY : THE REVENGE OF BLOODY BILL.
