PLOT
Six friends on a road trip stop for the night at a Bed and Breakfast in the sleepy town of Lovelock. After a night that leaves both the Inn's owner and chef dead, the gang finds themselves under suspicion by the local Sheriff. But that's only the beginning as nearly all of the town's quirky residents become possessed by an evil spirit and pin down the friends inside the B&B.

THE REVIEW
DEAD & BREAKFAST is one crazy off the wall film in the vein of SHAUN OF THE DEAD. Before watching this i'll admit that I was not really looking forward to see it at all, since horror with overly played out comedy isn't exactly my cup of tea. I mean I like horror comedy and all but not films that rely on it, like SHAUN OF THE DEAD. I was never a big fan of SHAUN and never understood all of it's hype, I was not highly impressed by it. But as far as DEAD & BREAKFAST goes, I thought some of it was highly entertaining!
The plot centers around a group of friends whom are driving to a wedding in an RV. Tire, the group stops in a Texas town called Lovelock, to find a place to sleep for the night. Upon looking around, some of the locals recommend that the group crash and the local bed & breakfast for the night. There, they meet some rather strange people. As they settle in at the B&B, people start dying under strange circumstances. An annoying French chef is killed, also the B&B's owner Mr. Wise has a heart attack and dies all the sudden. But when one of the friends opens a small chinese looking box that he was warned not to open, a restless evil spirit is unleashed and it zombifies the whole town. It is said that if something from a person(ie hair blood etc) is place inside the box he or she will be possessed as well. So it is up to the group of friends to fight for their survival and often fight amongst friends.
Another thing about this film I liked is that it's production is slick and the plot flows nicely as you watch. The film is companied by some nice art that appear to be post cards that dictate the story. The film also has intermissions hosted by a singing cowboy...sometime this is quite funny, as he rhymes about stuff happening in the plot. The little intermissions remind me of THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY, also reminiscent of Phil Cruz's ANDRE THE BUTCHER(DEAD MEAT) In which he had Gene Nash.
The acting here is half and half, I recall Ever Caradine's performance being the best. Next would come Gina Philips whom many of you will know from JEEPER'S CREEPERS, both of these ladies were very good. Jeremy Sisto would get a nod from me but is not in the film for more than 30mins, I am thinking that they could only pay him for 2 days worth of work or something, he dies rather quickly. Other notable appearance are David Caradine(The Uncle of Star Ever Caradine)
The film's best aspects lie in the gore department, as the gore really stands out and is excellent, the unique kills really do add a flavor. The film's comedy is ok, I mean, some of it is repetitive and slapstick, but the film does have some very funny moments. My favorite comedic scene would have to be when all of the zombies formed and danced like in the Michael Jackson Thriller video, to the tune of the singing cowboy and his band....simply classic!

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
Ok so my rating is sort of high on this one. Of course I liked it, but again, just like SHAUN OF THE DEAD, this may be a little over hyped. This film IS in fact better than SHAUN though, at least to me, but sometimes this film's slasher plot is so good that the comedy ruins it And why is it that every movie that comes out based in Texas portrays us as being hicks, inbred and cowboys?....just a thought. I'd give DEAD & BREAKFAST a shot at a rental, but I don't know i'd recommend that you buy it.
