PLOT
A group of kids break down while driving down a remote forest road. After a disturbing night alone in the woods, they stumble upon Camp Hiawatha in full swing and packed with seemingly happy teenagers. However, the teens and the camp itself are strangely trapped back in 1981. The clothes, the music, the hair, and the attitudes are 24 years back in time. The campers are forced to relive the same day and night over and over again. The night when a silent killer stalked the camp silencing campers and counselors one by one. The kids from the present struggle to understand and help the teens from 1981 break free of the curse. Working together both time-periods begin to learn about the different worlds from which they come and what it will take for all of them to survive.

THE REVIEW
CAMP DAZE, offers up a new twist on the old camp slasher flicks that I have never personally saw before. I have just finished viewing the film and I am still trying to register what I have seen, as this film is fully equipped with many tosses and turns. As of right now my best way of describing CAMP DAZE, would have to be a cross between the films ; BACK TO THE FUTURE, GROUNDHOG DAY, FRIDAY THE 13TH, and SLEEPAWAY CAMP!

The film's drama begins when four unknowing friends happen to get stranded when their car breaks down. The happen to break down at the location at a summer camp called Camp Hiawatha, which seems a little strange. It is strange because everyone there seems a little dated, from the clothes they wear to the things they say. Upon their time spend there, the friends learn that for some reason they are now stuck back in time.... in the summer of 1981 to be exact and every night the campers fall victim to an unknown killer. Just when you think it couldn't get any more weirder with this story....the killings the see, seem to be happening over and and over again.....almost in a rewound state.

The plot seems a bit weird and complicated right? I know but in my opinion it is absolutely brilliant! The complexity of this film shows you that the writer and director actually took the time to develop a story that, was weird, different but still had enough smarts to make sense. They wanted to bring you back to the 80's, an era that produced countless amounts of horror gems. It would be safe say that the filmmakers did just what they sat out to do. Sure you could/can compare CAMP DAZE, to films like FRIDAY THE 13TH and SLEEPAWAY CAMP, but it wouldn't exactly be a fair comparison. The reason why I say this is, CAMP DAZE is a lot like those films, but it has a kind of quirkiness and off beat humor that you would not find in any of the old camp flicks. I loved the film's unpredictability, in that the film has so many twists that you would never actually guess whom the killer is right off.

The directing is fairly good as the feel of the 80's is there visually. I did have a few minor setbacks as their are a few times where it looks like there were a few hard cuts and edits. Another thing is that there seemed to be many instances in which the camera zooms in on the actors face, which seemed unnecessary, but hey it's the director's vision and i'm not one to argue with that.

The acting was average, truly not the best in the world, but highly enjoyable to say the least. The performances were good enough to bring the story to it's highest potential i'd believe, making it as entertaining as the filmmakers had wanted to make it.

The flashback to the 80's, the funny dialogue, the plot and direction all make CAMP DAZE a worth while journey back in time....
