THE REVIEW
With BLOOD RELIC, MTI has put out a horror film that is quite enjoyable, to say the least it is one of MTI's better releases as of late. The film starts out showing an i'll Naval aviator is the bathroom of the navy base, the man is wearing a what appears to be ancient talisman The necklace seems to hold a power over Frank and he proceeds to kill all of his peers in cold blood with on remorse. 22 yeats have passed and the once jailed Frank Campbell is set free and now he is out to retrieve the talisman that put him behind bars and destroy it forever. Now the once naval base where it all happened 22 years ago is being prepped to be converted into an air and space museum....employed with young fresh faces, the havoc that occurred 22 years ago soon returns when the lethal artifact is unearthed and someone mysterious is killing off the workers.
Now BLOOD RELIC, I will begin saying is far from original as we have seen many of the elements presented here in many of today's modern horror flicks. For one you have a masked killer, and what horror movie these days doesn't have that? The killer in this film looked rather laughable and ridiculous, as he was dressed in some sort of naval suit. next we have the comedic fellow whom always fakes his death, just to freak out his friends....and when he really DOES end up dead they seem to be non-believers. And this film also sports the almost always present female nudity. These are just a few of it's unoriginal aspects, although I am pretty sure there's more.
If you look passed this(as I am doing) this movie is still very enjoyable, although also highly predictable, it just somehow continued to peak my interests
With the acting, it's quite the standard of your average B-Horror flick as you probably would've guessed. Some of the young cast just seem to be there to keep the story's "glue" in place, as this movie is actually what it is because of both Billy Drago and Debbie Rochon's performances. Drago does a fantastic job as the bitter owner of the museum, whom is enraged when he is notified of some upcoming changes to the building. Next we have the always lovely Debbie Rochon, I just love Debbie, she has one of these screen presences that only a few have, and even in a small role like this it still shows quite nicely. She plays Corey, one of the crusaders out to find the answer to all of the madness, and just looking at her is worth the time you spend watching the film.
Overall "I" thought this was a fairly well executed, shot on video effort, it does look and feel low budget at times but all of that can be over looked, once it's story picks up.

GORE
METER 3/10 not too big in the gore department here on this film, just the average fare i'd say...but still enough to finger paint with...... |

MUSICAL
SCORE
2/10 If this film would've had a more in dept score it could've been even more enjoyable....the one it does have is on the bland side. |

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
Ok, so overall... it was pretty good, i'd say if you are a fan of all films that this film gets it's inspiration from(SCREAM, BLOODY MURDER 2, and HALLOWEEN are some that come to mind) you'd probably like this. I would recommend BLOOD RELIC certainly..... |
