PLOT
It's a hundred years later, and the vampire Rayne has arrived in the town of Deliverance, Montana where a group of vampire cowboys have emerged. Led by Billy the Kid, hell bent on creating his own kingdom, he slaughters townspeople and rounds up children. He spares the life of Chicago Chronicle reporter Newton Pyles. Rayne aligns herself with Pat Garret, a member of the long-thought dead Brimstone society, a dishonest preacher, and a low life named Franson, to stop Billy the Kid and show the world how the West was really won. |

THE REVIEW
BLOODRAYNE 2 : DELIVERANCE picks up years after the first film. This time we find our half Human, half Vampire, Rayne on a new quest, which happens to be in the wild west. When one of her relatives is killed, and that relative's son is kidnapped, she heads to the town of Deliverance to find the boy. When she gets there she finds that the legendary Billy The Kid(who is a Vampire in this film) is leading a group of Vampire Cowboys. Billy and his band of followers have already slaughtered several townspeople and kidnapped all of the children, including the boy who is Rayne's relative. Billy knows that a train passes through Deliverance, and from there he plans to ambush the train's passengers turning them all into Vampires, to create his ultimate kingdom of blood-suckers - the children would serve as meals until then. Determined to cease Billy The Kid's plans, Rayne assembles a new Brimstone Society that consists of a wayward preacher, a lowly criminal, and the tough gun-slinging Pat Garret. and together they try to collectively put an end to Billy The Kid's reign of terror.
When I saw the first BLOODRAYNE, I knew what the fans thought of Director Uwe Boll, and I myself wasn't too fond of his work either(I hated ALONE IN THE DARK to no end). But whatever the case might've been, I tried to go into it open-minded, not thinking of his previous efforts. I thought BLOODRAYNE was a decent, if not just mediocre film, if you look past the fact that the film had absolutely no character background or development, or that a lot of the the scenes were rather jumpy with a shaky camera and all, and that they were just not that creative - the action scenes were the only thing that kept you watching.
Now this film is set in the Western days, which is really weird to begin with if you ask me. I have never played the video game that these films are based on, so I don't know if the character has ever gone to the west, but to it's just kind of awkward seeing a Half Human, Half Vampire character, in the wild west fighting Cowboys. Again Uwe Boll devotes no time to Rayne's character and background, nor does he even elaborate how Rayne ended up in the west in the first place. The film just starts off years later, Rayne relatives,(whom happen to also not be explained, as to what relation the are to Rayne) are terrorized by Billy The Kid, whom somehow is a Vampire now, Rayne shows up on a Horse wearing western attire(since when was she ever a Cowgirl?).
To be honest, this movie really does have a lot of things wrong with it, one I have already mentioned is that the character Rayne is suddenly in the wild west as if she used a time machine. It seems as if Boll really wanted in his heart to do a Western, so he took a character that he already had under his belt and placed her in one He also chose to take a legendary figure in Billy The Kid and made him a Vampire to fit in with the Bloodrayne story, no matter how silly or far fetched it was, and tried to make what he thought was a good Horror story.
The execution is also far from great, as the shaky cam is still there. Filmmakers like Alexandre Aja use the shaky camera effect, but in the case of Aja he uses it at the right times, such as an erratic chase scene, that gives off the feeling of realism, or "being there". Boll on the other hand always seems to use a shaky cam or times that are awkward and unnecessary, the is a scene in this film, in which Billy The Kid is walking forward to approach Rayne and the camera begins to shake with his every step - I could see if he was running toward her, but when watching a movie you're not supposed to sense the director that's holding the camera back stepping as the actor is approaching him. There are also plenty of weird slow motion shots as someone gets killed through out the film. I could understand one or two occurring, but is it truly necessary to slow motion the shot every time someone is shot or killed in some other way. To close off talking about the film's execution, the funniest, yet the thing that most bothered me about this film are the Vampires themselves, Ok Uwe, we know it's a Vampire movie, so why is it that every time a Vampire comes on screen, they must show their fangs and hiss at us? I found this laughable and to be another reason as to why you can't take this film seriously.
The acting was just ok, I really didn't pay attention to any of the characters except for Rayne, because as I said, none of the characters have very much development, so therefore, we don't really "know them. Although we still don't know much of Rayne's background, you are still drawn to her because she is an ass kicking female. This time Rayne is portrayed by Natassia Malthe, whom replaces Kristanna Loken as the title character, after she declined to reprise due to prior commitments. I have to say that Natassia Malthe is the more beautiful of the two in the role, but the experience would go to Loken, whom had a bigger presence as Rayne, but if I had to choose i'd go with Malthe personally, because she has a more appealing look.
Overall, even though the original was ok, it really had no solidity to it, and this one is even worse when it comes to story, Uwe Boll seems to be someone that likes to concentrate less on story and more on action, as this and any of his previous films really have no story to them. Westerns and Vampires have crossed paths before but with far better results than BLOODRAYNE :2, with this film, Boll strays further and further away from the game with more gun fighting than actually hand to hand combat, and less focus on the skills of the franchise's centerpiece.

OVERALL
IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
Basically BLOODRAYNE 2 : Deliverance is just a western with Rayne's world of Vampires mixed in for genre crossing action, Unfortunately, there's not as as much action as the last film, and other than that, there is just not much here to keep you watching.
The DVD will be available on September 18, 2007
