THE REVIEW
THE BEAST OF BRAY ROAD, is the newest film put out by The Asylum and directed by Leigh Scott. This film centers around a myth of a half wolf, half human creature that once terrorized a small town in Wisconsin years ago. Now that these strange and mysterious killings are happening once again, it is up to the town's police and a few locals to uncover the mystery and destroy whatever is committing these acts.

There have been a lot of films that have come out that have dealt with similar issues such as Bigfoot, The Loch-Ness Monster, and even Werewolves such as this, the most recent being Wes Craven's CURSED, which bares a striking resemblance to THE BEAST OF BRAY ROAD. Although I didn't really enjoy CURSED that much at all, I have to say that I actually really enjoyed THE BEAST OF BRAY ROAD. Although on a lower budget and tighter schedule, The Asylum, with this film, have made something that will most likely keep your attention and interest throughout the film. I for one, cannot recall a time I was ever bored during this film, well maybe one and that's when the title credits were rolling. I was simply ready for the action!

The film really captures a small country town in it's authenticity, being from the south I can definitely tell you that some of the mannerisms of the characters are often funny to look at but also unfortunately very true in reality. The film overall sometimes has the feel of the "cable movie" i'll admit, but that is soon forgotten as the film's suspense over shadows it.

The creature in the film is more of an exaggeration of all of the previous Werewolves ever used. I am truly amazed at how the film crew managed to make such a cool looking "beast" at such a limited budget. The acting in the film is a mixed bag, as almost always in a low budget film, while the supporting actors are merely lost in the distance, the leading actors take charge. In my opinion the best performance here is offered up by actress Sarah Lieving, Who plays local bar owner Kelly, I am not aware if this is her first film as I have never saw her prior to this, but I hope to see her again. She is very beautiful and seems to be a very promising actress. Jeff Denton is also exceptionally well as a sheriff, from chicago, who is the new guy in town who just so happens to be transplanted into a horrid situation. With no disrespect to Tom Downey who's character's name escapes me right now, He plays the kooky but self proclaimed expert in various exotic species of animal. You know how films seem to have at least one oddball? Well Downey's character would be THE BEAST OF BRAY ROAD'S.

So in closing, this is one entertaining film, with a big twist at one point in the film, and i'll leave that to be discovered. I will say that I am highly impressed by this film, and look forward to reviewing more films from The Asylum.

GORE METER
6/10 The gore in this film is definitely one of it's strong points and I really like how the filmmakers don't make it the film's main purpose, the killings are animalistic as you'd imagine, more like mauling, with decapitations and ripping of one's limbs.

MUSICAL SCORE
5/10 The score is mixed for me, while the instrumental tracks are great and really add to the film's suspense. There is also some country added in as well, although it fits the town the movie is set in, I just don't dig it.

SPECIAL FEATURES RATING
3/10 I wasn't too big on the special features. We get a behind the scenes look at the film, that I feel that could've been more in dept. We also of outtakes and also a feature commentary

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
When I first heard of this film, it sounded interesting yet I didn't know what to expect, but I am glad that I did have the chance to see it. I would recommend this to the slasher fan, and even fans,(if there are any) that liked CURSED. Pick this up on Sept. 27, 2005!
