THE REVIEW
ABSOLUTION : THE 13TH PRIEST, is a short film about Ivan, a young man, that when younger, witnessed his mother brutally stab his father to death after she found him molesting her son... Growing up, Ivan has been troubled by that very day through his entire young adulthood, and has tried to seek help from a number of priests, But instead, when he meets with these priests, he says they remind him of his father and that they bring back memories of the awful things he had done. To fix this, in an act of insanity he conjures up a demon that ultimately becomes a part of him, and he becomes a stone cold killer, and on the path he takes, he kills 12 priests. The short film begins as he meets up with a 13th priest, as a last resort for closure.

Well, a good buddy of mine, Tom Nagel, whom has a cameo in this as one of the doomed priest recommended ABSOLUTION to me, and I was more than happy to give it a look. Admittedly, I normally do not care too much for religious oriented movies, but this one is unique. With all of the news scandals going on about the Catholic church going around, you get curious sometimes and wonder, what would happen if a victim got his or her revenge, and this happens to be the closet sort of depiction of that I have seen. The problem with the film is that, although the story is great, there just isn't enough time available for the film to fully develop the story. At almost 20 minutes in length, the story really moves too fast for the viewer to grasp and connect to the characters and story. It's essentially like reading a newspaper.... you learn of a story and what took place, but you don't actually know all of the individuals involved - you just know their names.

This film is a great effort on the part of DM Abledsoul, it is shot very smoothly and the use of soft colors really gives it a peaceful and pleasing look and feel. With the promising story and acting this one has...I believe that it would make a much better feature film - one in which we learn a little more about Ivan than Absolution allows.

GORE METER
1/10 Not all that gory, because not too much violence is found in the film, it focuses the majority on character.

MUSICAL SCORE
2/10 The song played at the beginning and ending are cool, but I don't recall much of a score used in the film.

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
Overall, this is a very decent short film, the director shows he has great potential. As I said I would love to see a feature length version of this, and i'd definitely recommend this to get a taste of the talent DM Abledsoul has to offer.
