THE REVIEW
7 MUMMIES, comes as a shock to me, I really liked this film! I discovered this film while surfing on imdb.com looking at Cerina Vincent's profile. Being a huge fan of Cerina and her work, I was curious to find out if she had any new horror flicks out. I found 7 Mummies, read about it, and had to see it, so here we are now! I was really curious to see this as imdb had it labeled as "horror and western" as a fan of the new modern western flicks I thought that this could be an interesting mix, and what I got was a movie that I really enjoyed.

It takes place when a group of inmates break out of a maximum security van while traveling in the desert, all of the guards are killed except for one female guard in which they hold hostage. Upon traveling in the desert they come across a strange looking gold medallion. They then meet an old apache indian who tells them the story about lost indian gold that was once guarded by 7 priests who vowed to keep the treasure's whereabouts a secret. They have since built a town over the treasure's burial grounds and the apache says whomever returns the seventh medallion to that very place will enjoy the riches the treasure has to offer. So our inmates head up to the old town saloon and meet a cast of towns people, who seem very fine at first look, but will soon became very strange. The story then takes a twist as night falls and reveals that these towns people are actually vampires, whom are after the inmates! The story gets quite interesting as you see our main characters vow to survive.

This film was shot quite nicely and is at times, very beautiful to look at. Shot in Arizona, the film's scenery really adds to the dimension of the film, coupled with nice camera work. I was really never bored at all while watching this film, as the acting is very good and above average the rate of most independent features

What a great cast this movie has! We have Andrew Bryniarski who played Leatherface in the TCM remake and next its prequel, I really love the guy, he has a great presence on screen. And of course the lovely and talented Cerina Vincent, whom I previously mentioned. I have to say that although she looks ultra sexy in 7 MUMMIES as always her performance wasn't the one that caught my attention the most. That would have to go to Billy Wirth here, he is excellent as the character as Travis and i'll admit that i've never saw him act before! and another thing, I am highly impressed with Billy Drago, wow! I reviewed him in BLOOD RELIC a while back and thought he was good, but not great and was quite annoyed by his character.....7 MUMMIES proves to me that he is outstanding. More cameos include Victor Santeago better know as rapper "N.O.R.E. and Martin Kove whom played sensei John Kresse, in THE KARATE KID series.

Like I have said, this movie is great and is the perfect blend of both horror and Western, and I am highly impressed.....if not for a few scenes being overly too dark I would have given this film, a 7.5 or possibly an 8!

GORE METER
6/10 The gore is ok in this film, as we do get blood splatter here and there. A crush skull and a decapitated head are what stand out the most to me!

MUSICAL SCORE
8/10 Great, great, great soundtrack! finally a movie does it right and has a score that I actually care for. This film has a nice blend of a western instrumental score, hip hop and some hard rock. Anything that gets my head moving while actually watching the movie is good enough for me!

OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE FILM
Ok my last thoughts on 7 MUMMIES. Well first off, I cannot believe that this probably won't be in theaters. 7 MUMMIES is one of the best displays of independent filmmaking I have seen in a long while, and I truly mean that! This is scheduled for a January 2006 release, I sure hope it is released it is too entertaining to be looked over.
